Living in the U.S. , I've never heard of (or ever seen) the Red Dwarf TV show. However I did hear the theme song because some Linux podcasters used it as their closing theme in the late 2000's.

Interesting three year argument, maybe I can bring clarity. This is the extended mix of the Red Dwarf theme (and that is what it was released as). It feature two verses which were not included in the final cut of the theme song. All of this is covered by the composer himself, Howard Goodall, in the extra content on one of the DVD's for the series. Either Howard Goodall is also a smeghead for knowing the difference between an extended mix and a final cut, or, several people here are gimboids.

I clapped with joy at the first episode of season 12 much like I did at 6 years old watching the reruns of first two seasons in early 90s and the joy of series three and four at seven and eight going into school discussing smeg with my little friend along side my little pony!!!

You can't seem to wrap your mind around the fact that this isn't an "alternate" version or that it IS the theme even if only an abridged version was aired. It's a common to record a theme and then use a section in the credits. I Love Lucy and Cheers to name a couple. There are lots of videos on youtube showing just the closing credits that you want and they are easy to find. I'm glad this was posted. So I'll forego your favorite word and say you come off like a self important whiner.

If you like examples then there is no better example of my point than the theme to bonanza. Originally written with lyrics, the theme aired had them replaced with an instrumental accompaniment, the versions containing the lyrics are routinely dignified with some indication of that fact (Referred to as a Song, reference to the preformer, or reference to lyrics.) Unaired Version works too. It's a simple convention, people don't put "aired theme" because theme already indicates that by default.

If people wanted an alternate theme, they'd search "red dwarf alternate theme", when they want the music and lyrics that were actually aired, they search "red dwarf theme" and get this instead
