As a tech in training and a customer, SET ASIDE FUNDS FOR EXPENSES. I’m not calling anyone out, or trying to make anyone feel less than due to monetary reasons, but nails are a privilege. They’re not mandatory. It’s a fun, self-caring, lavish expense. Just like designer clothes shopping, going out to fancy eateries, etc. Plan ahead, set money aside, so that A) you’re not making a tech feel self conscious for charging prices they feel they are worth and have already established, and B) you don’t cause yourself any unnecessary stress, undue spending.

Ive been a tech for over 30 years. Still the one thing that irritates me the most. Is a client walking in late with a takeaway coffee in hand!! Clients that wont go after their appointment! they talk and talk and talk all the way through the only break you have all day! Touching their face and getting makeup on prepped nails! Twisting their hands!! Product ends up in their cuticle because they wont sit still!, but look at me like ohh! Geese hope ya going to fix that??? Have gunk under their nails!! Lick their fingers after they’ve washed!! Desperate to answer their phones with wet gel!! Wont give you their hands until they’ve given you the story of how they broke them!! I could go on. Hahahaha. Love my job 😉

Im not a licensed nail tech, i am a makeup artist and one huge red flag for me that wasn't brought up is the person who comes in and claims to be an influencer and demands a bunch of free stuff so they can "promote me" and then proceeds to behave like an entitled toddler when i explain that the electric company wont let me pay them in "exposure". My prices are average for my area and my experience, and they wouldn't be sitting in my chair if they could do it themselves....

There’s 2 things I hate about the salon I work at. 1. My bosses NEVER pay us on time. We’re supposed to get paid on Mondays every 2 weeks. They always ends up paying us on Thursday or Friday. Back in mid-September, she got robbed and her identity got stolen and ever since then, they’ve been paying us even later than they were before that. One of my coworkers was even struggling to pay her bills last month because the last time the owners at paid her (at the time) was the first week of September. So she went a month without getting paid. 2. There’s a lot of drama with my coworkers. Most of them speak only Spanish and 2 of them speak Spanish and English, and I’m the only one that speaks only English. I’m a college student and before I started the fall semester back in August, I was working on Mondays. I was the only English speaker those days and unless my boss showed up to do the reception, I was in charge of the reception because the others don’t speak English. Once, the coworkers who I worked with specifically on Mondays told my manager that I was putting all the appointments under me. Mind you, on Mondays, I was the only person who does acrylic and one of 2 people who did hard gel. Everyone else only did mani’s and pedi’s. So it was super funny to me that the ONLY day that my boss doesn’t come to work to do the reception, I get accused of keeping all the appointments to myself. I also wasn’t aware that they even thought that until my manager told me that (not that she believed them). There was also a coworker I had back then and she always started stuff with everyone. She would accuse everyone of taking her implements or her dappen dishes and stuff and then another of my coworkers would check behind her and find it. It got to the point that my bosses fired her. The only reason I haven’t quit is because I need the money because I live in Miami and it’s expensive as hell to live here and I only have a month left of working there before I have to leave to do an internship for college for my last semester before I graduate.

The first time I got my nails done I got cut. The second time they tried pushing my cuticles with their own finger nail. The third time I got burned with their efile, the fourth time I felt rushed out after I was looking at my nails to see if I liked them. & the final time my nails looked like someone who is still learning did them & I paid $200. I had to point it out because I thought paying that much was unfair. That’s when I decided I should just start doing my own nails.

🤣 I’m pretty sure I got red flagged by a salon near me. I went in saying I am a DIYer - I honestly went in to learn from what the tech was doing. & not have to do my own for once lol anyways fast forward - it was a terrible terrible experience. It was dirty, reused sanding bands from past clients, dampen dish had a cloth stuffed inside and was reused and capped with each client. She made my tip with glue fall into he floor and reused it after using her finger to wipe it. & my nail beds had rings where she filed the cuticle. They hurt really badly and I wasn’t able to get them redone for like 2 months afterwards 😟 good times. We need red flags for customers entering a bad business.

For me, as a customer, it's dealing with someone who cut you and acts like it's fine or out right refusing to give me what I want. I've had techs who won't do nails longer than 1/4 of an inch longer than my nail plate, even if its just going to be one color. I also think lying about ur skills is a red flag. If you cannot do what I ask I prefer you to be honest, instead of give me dirty looks and try to push a design you prefer on me.....I've had some really bad experiences as a customer.

Most nail salons are like this, they dont learn the new stuff and sit around on phones or watch tv instead of learning. I told the owner of a place when she made a statement of business being slow cuz covid, i responded the reason i came here cuz I’m in a hurry and i knew you’d be slow that every nail salon in my area is crazy busy. I then told her that you nail techs dont learn anything new. While its slow, get these girls on you tube…young nails, nail career education n such and pop it up on you tv and make these girls updated on new stuff! They wanna do one solid color. I asked if my girl could add mylar and she said what’s mylar. I have bought lots products from ya and other places so i can come home and decorate my own nails. I also told the owner about her place being dirty and to read reviews online cuz most people complain online about girls being rude talking chit and not listening to what customer wants and their fricking quoted a price and go to pay and the price jumped up! I was straight up with owner. But she wanted to not listen. Now i see why she’s dead in her salon

My nail salon I have used since the beginning of this year. I went last month to get my nails done and 3 of the techs were very loud & profane talking about boyfriends & gossiping and I realized the owner wasn’t around. It was very uncomfortable. The tech attending to me was part of these 3. She kept apologizing when she sees the discomfort in my expression but the profanity didn’t step. And that was my last time there. Last week I found myself a new salon.

I remember going into a nail salon two women were in there (clearly they were friends) they asked for the same thing since they both were talking so loud I heard them say they needed the same design cause they were going to a party together. Long story short they both started an argument with the nail techs because at the end of service they were priced differently…one nail tech said $100 the other said $125 … cops were called … it was a complete mess and I’m glad I got my $75 service and got out of there before it got really crazy. As a licensed nail tech, I always try to educate my clients whether they're staying with me or if they choose to go to a different nail tech. A couple of the red flags that I tell them to look for are: If you see a nail tech who takes their implements and after using them on a client, they sit them directly into the barbicide solution sitting on their nail table....🚩🚩🚩🚩 (That's not proper cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing.) If you sit down to get your nails done and the implements are dirty, scratched up, or dusty....🚩🚩🚩🚩 (It means more than likely they were used on another client and never properly cleaned, disinfected and sanitized.) There are other red flags that I educate them on but those are the top two that I could think of right now.

The last time I went to a salon I came home with a fungal infection as well as dodgy nails, there was dust everywhere. 2 years later and I still have the fungal infection and it is driving me crazy. The salon has been sold since but I am now going to do my own nails. All the salons in my area are owned and run by people who don't speak English very well and they all sit there talking in their own language, which makes me very uncomfortable. I always wonder if they are talking about me or other clients, that's another reason I do my own.

You need to see a doctor asap...I recommend using onions juice on the nail bed and cuticle after soaking in apple cider vinegar and washing your hands frequently...(NO NAILS, NO ACRYLIC, NO GEL, NO NAIL POLISH... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT TAKING CARE OF YOUR NATURAL NAIL UNTIL IT HAS FULLY HEALED, AND THE FUNGUS HAS GROWN OUT. it is extremely important to see a real doctor because you may need antibiotics
@rileym538
@rileym538 2 жыл бұрын
hey! licensed nail technician from michigan here. sadly your fungal infection will not go away without treatment. you will need to see a doctor before the fungus causes your nail to fall off completely. if the infection isnt stopped, it will cause permanent damage to the part of your finger that grows your nails, and your nail will stop growing before falling off completely. it's extremely important to not wear any nail products while its growing out so you do not pass the fungal infection onto the products used on your nails. products used on your fungus can reinfect your nails once healed if used again. i wish you luck, and hope you find a salon that makes you feel comfortable, as well as looks out for your nail health !

I'm one of those clients that look at every little thing. But wait! ✋ Let me explain! Lol... first, the when I first started getting my bails done, I would go to random places and didn't really have one "nail person" and it was a hit or miss on quality of work from sloppy polish or acrylic nails too thick or off center or nails not the same length and other things. I was young and I never said anything a would be stuck with a set I was so unhappy with. Mind you, I still tipped $5 and up. Till one day, I was fed up of paying for disappointment. So I POLITELY would alert the tech to someone. (Some ppl are nasty and demanding) AS I GOT OLDER... I looked at everything because I grew interest in the industry and wanted to learn 😁 And that's why I'm here! Thanks for the content!

So I was a booth renter in a salon, I always cleaned my space every night before going home, but every week along with paying our booth rent, we had to pay a $15.00 cleaning fee every Friday. Paid it but always felt it was wrong. Annnd, we all had to chip in monthly $30.00 each for Social Media Salon Advertising for the Salon. I also felt that was wrong. One time the owner split the electricity bill with all of the booth renters in the salon because it was so high that month!!😂 wrong in so many ways!!!! Uggghhh 😣

I worked at a salon where it should have been a red flag for me when she said that the last girl made a copy of the salon key behind her back. I thought that was weird. Then I ended up having to do the same thing because I was always there early and she was always late. She’d make me walk to the convenience store next door and ask them for the key which got really annoying. When I asked her she saw no problem with me having to do that every time. So I made one. My first thought was I wonder if she'd like a mentor...I love helping people, but the oblivious girl didn't stop there.....she continued on before I could comment and said it looks so easy and so she thinks why not. I was so angry that I had to make the excuse of too much coffee and ducked out to collect positive thoughts in the restroom before I used language that would embarrass my mother. Seriously, she was completely oblivious the insult she just gave me and my profession. I haven't seen her since because just like some...she asked for a discount...like I said completely oblivious.

I'm so sorry you lost your business! My best nails have come from techs who work by themselves. The shops in my area work more based on quantity than quality. My nails would break quite often because of the inferior products they were using. A different person would be doing them every time. Once I found a tech that booked appointments and worked by herself my nails flourished. She used better products and you had a custom set of nails. It was well worth the money. She moved and I was able to find another tech that works solo. I saw a lot her work and while doing my set I saw very promising traits. I hope that customers that see your worth and talent find you.

Hello Young Nails, how about Nail Tech. Instructor. This teacher talks about students personal issues to all the students classmates when there are not around. To me that is the most disrespectful and unprofessional thing a so-called professional can do. To me they should me SHUT DOWN very messy messy

How can you know whether the salon is decent when the salon does not speak English?
@youngnailsinc

Whether English is the primary language or not wouldn’t determine the quality of the salon. If the technicians are skilled, clean and following state board guidelines would be more important qualities to look at when choosing a salon.
