i got into garland cause of number 10

I was reluctant to include #10 because it’s the break before a solo (A Foggy Day - Garland of Red) but it’s a perfect 2-5. This one actually turned me on to his playing as well , good taste!

Well done on this compilation and thanks for sharing! I personally think that every young jazz pianist should start with Red Garland because of his left hand comping patterns.

Thanks - I was wondering who I should listen to next for some inspiration so Red Garland it is. Great playing!!

Thanks, nat cole’s early stuff(where he doesn’t sing) is also a goldmine. He is probably the most underrated and influential jazz pianist.

Very nice !! As someone said in another comment you are "swinging hard" but I like the way you did it in a "funky" manner. Also the section at 2:10 was amazing and I had to slow it down to teally appreciate the nuances..Also I just subscribed.

Richard I just realized I had a lesson with you at Humber! I remember listening to your version of I Got The world on a string and loving it, I just watched your version of all The things and loved the stride passage!

Pdf includes "stylistically appropriate comping voicings and rhythms:)"? Or "Comes complete with authentic comping voicings and rhythms"? You can learn ii-V-I's till you are Blue in the Face, but that won't help you learn how to tell a Story. They are, after all, only a Punch Line or a Segue at best. You have to know how to set up a Punch Line to be able to tell an effective Story or Joke for that matter. Learned alone and out of context it's really like quoting Shakespeare without knowing what the Play is About.

True they are part of a more organic whole, but they still sound good in isolation. These licks are more to get ideas for your own improvisation.

I know the album is fire but you cant include this much garland of red material 🤣
