It’s amazing to witness Chad’s explosion into super stardom ever since the Tonight show with Will Ferrel. Almost every comment section on these new live performances is flooded with Chad Smith and Will Ferrel references or just people saying how he is one of the best drummers in the world….with those comments having the most likes ❤️ also, those new virally famous Drumeo videos he featured on have really done him justice, showing everyone how gifted and special he really is on those drums 🤙 he’s my greatest influence. The one who inspired/motivated me to become a better and much more solid drummer. He is a straight up behemoth of a groove monster that can play ANYTHING that you’re favorite technical drummer can play, but his way of laying down a perfectly tight, funky, and CHUNKY simple groove on their albums gave me the confidence I needed to know that I could actually learn and play along to a song, or whenever my band mates wanted to freestyle jam, I could actually create my own groove, having the ability to follow along and even lead at times. He made drumming FUN to learn. The more tracks I learned from him, the better I got with the most important part of drumming, which is the basics. From there, I was I able to grow my chops, my technical ability (which isn’t insane, but outstandingly better than I ever thought I could be), and my favorite thing of all….my GROOVE. I learned how to loosen up enough to actually look cooler when I played because of the confidence I gained from listening/watching him….I attained the CHAD SMITH style, the coolest style in the damn world in my opinion lol. My most favorite type of jamming ended up being with my friend who could play the bass as good as the God himself, Flea. When a drummer and an amazing bass player connect, finding that groove and pocket with the bassdrum/Hi-hats/Snare…theres no better feeling in the world. Bass players and drummers are like two peas in a pod. We used to emulate what Chad and flea did, especially on those older jam videos they made back in the day. It’s the coolest and most fun thing to do.
