We have some of these in our garden,13 eggs, 12 hatched and now they're running around following mum.

Amazing animals… we actually found a baby in our garden… it fell off a small wall but couldn’t get back up. The mommy ran away with plenty more, left this one back and never came back.. she was probably too scared I think.. long story but it ends that we’ve taken him inside and grown him our own! We took him every day to our back garden with us so he had always the chance to go back to nature but decided to come back every time he went off and it started to get dark or cold… finally he’s 14 months now and moved with us back to Germany this April!!! He’s still living inside and together with two bunnies and seems very happy about the whole story of his life so far!! Really hoping that he will be with us forever and I’ll may try to share some footage shortly!!

Hello James, Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed watching this short video and managed to spot a red-legged partridge in your area. We are lucky in North Norfolk, having plenty of these birds and Pheasants, all over the countryside and in private gardens. Take care.

Indeed Mark. We are lucky to have a few wildlife left on this earth in spite of all the damages we have done over the past 50 years.

Freddy2Noel Absolutely! The beauty of it is how it always seems to heal itself of the horrible things that man inflicts on it and the poisons that we continually pump into the environment. We have always taken this for granted. There will come a day when our world will fail to be so resilient and the damage will not heal. I just wish that we could wake up and realize that.

Lovely footage of these beautiful birds. Wonderful to see them close up like this and in such a lovely, safe environment, with the Skylark singing as well, idyllic. Such a clever mum. I hope they continued to go on to live full and healthy lives and kept out of danger. How anyone can harm these beautiful creatures is beyond me.

Alice Coates Thank you Alice. I am pleased you like them. A hen came again in 2017 but she abandoned the nest after being scared by a cat (we think?) Thirteen eggs, sadly, were lost 😩
@alicecoates11794 жыл бұрын
@@Freddy2Noel That's very sad to hear, a dreadful tragedy for those poor creatures, such a waste of life! Unfortunately cats have an awful lot to answer for ( not that I have anything against any animal), it is just a pity they can't be kept under more control, no other pet is given so much freedom to be 'wild', the animals can't be held responsible for their natural instincts, but humans have a responsibility to protect the wildlife around us, not put it under more threat. It sadly is an ongoing problem, and a very sensitive one regarding cats, more-so the owners. I wish you all the best with the rest of your lovely, resident feathered visitors, you are doing a great service to them!

Hello. I doubt you will see this comment in time, but worth a try. I make wildlife fact files and am currently covering the red legged partridge, this is the best footage I can find of them nesting anywhere on youtube and it would be great if you would be kind enough to let me use a small section of this footage in my fact file? I would include an on screen credit for the footage and a link to this video in return. (I dont know if itll help, but I am also norfolk based...) Cheers, Liam

Hello, Liam, Thank you for your kind appreciation of my video. KZbin’s notification works well. You may indeed use any part of my video for your fact files. Thank you for giving me credit and posting the link to the video. We had another nest in 2017, but the female abandoned the 13 eggs for an unknown reason. Sadly, we have not seen any in our garden this year. We had a few Grey Partridges, though less than usual. I guess too many tourists are now visiting our coastal villages. I’ll gladly see the link to your fact files if they are publicly published. Best regards Frederic

Hi @@Freddy2Noel. Thank you so much for letting me use this footage, it has fitted well in with the video which is finished and now available at : kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXTFc36errKdmas You may note in the video I say they have 8 to 16 eggs, which is the norm, but on this occasion they must have bee extra productive- There are always exceptions to the rules. Kind regards, Liam

Where I work I look after the wildlife (on top of my real work) and we had a brood of 4 partridge. 3 of them disappeared last week. The mum, with the last chick, moved closer to the office building perhaps avoiding the predator that killed the others. Today the last chick is nowhere to be found :-( it could have been cats, stoat or sparrowhawk. A male and a female pheasant are on site as well and I'm concern that if they have chicks the same could happen. Any advice on how to deal with this?

Better late than never to acknowledge your message of... 2 years ago! Sorry. I have no idea how we could prevent nature to go her own way, unfortunately. This month, June 2020, we have a couple of shelducks nesting in our garden (under a bush there is a rabbit hole). We are expecting chicks any day now. We are very worried as we have kestrels, buzzards and a red kite flying around almost daily over our garden and the field nearby.

We have a pair in our garden, do you put out any food for them?
@Freddy2Noel4 жыл бұрын
Hello, I trust you enjoyed watching my video and I am pleased that you have a pair roaming in your garden. Hopefully, they will find a nice spot to nest at your place. I never put any food specifically for them in our garden though sometimes they would pick up seeds on the ground below our bird feeders. On the film, one can see the hen eating a spider coming down in front of her in the nest at 2:44 to 2:59.

Freddy2Noel thank you for your reply. This is the first time ever we have had them in the garden, I had to look on the internet because I didn’t know what they were. Your video is beautiful with some amazing close ups. Thank you again .

I'm watching this delightful video in 2022 !....where I am our visiting Partridge has turned up with 9 chicks....last year there were 11 but on a cold august evening she flew off after being frightned by a car, the chicks scattered in long grass and she never found them...little bodies everywhere in the morning. Poor things....I despise the shooting fraternity for causing this situation in the first place.
