BONUS: LEARING HOW TO LEARN! This video shows trial and error process of learning hard to visualize derivations. How to learn when you don't have anyone that will answer your questions. I do not get there today but a couple days later I realize it was worth it to make this video and I think I am almost there to explain the derivative of a radial unit vector with respect to the angle phi.

As a Golfer and Aspiring Physicist, I can confirm your reality check of the Ball Speed is good. Considering modern speeds as well, I was more shocked it wasn't pushing to 200mph. I really like questions like this which push the a daily application with calculations, as you can do fundamental reality checks. Does this make sense to the context? I really enjoyed watching you do those checks throughout.

I really liked the first problem' solution for initial velocity and time in flight, but it seems you may have gotten derailed when you converted velocity from meters/second to miles/hour @ 16:57, and explains how you got 18 seconds for time of flight @ 18:00. If initial velocity is 53 (52.9942) meters/second, then the horizontal velocity is (cos48)52.9942 m/s, or 35.46m/s. Then the time of flight = distance/velocity, or 285 meters/(cos48)52.9942m/s = 8.037 seconds. With that, I got: a) 8.037 seconds, b) 380.50 m/s, c) 11.9 mm/s, d) 96 mm.

@cewkins721
@cewkins721 4 ай бұрын
Yep same answers i got, definitely right, i also tried doing this using the Coriolis term in the circular acceleration definition and i also got 96mm deflection "off target" distance, you just use the term 2*radial velocity*angular velocity of earth where the radial velocity is the the increase in the horizontal distance between the two points in this case R(cos(35)-cos(34.997))=163 meters then divide by the total time of flight for the projectile, then if you multiply by angular velocity of earth and 2 you get approximately 2.5956*10^-3 m/s^2. using this you can get the gap between the hole and the ball by integrating twice and plugging in the value of time, yet for some reason when you integrate once to get the velocity difference you get double the difference in relative velocity, if you do (2.5956*10^-3) * 8 (seconds) you get around 0.0207 m/s which is around double the correct value of 11 mm/s? i suppose the reason is that due to the fact that we are considering the object to be accelerating in its tangential velocity while the ground beneath it is relatively still you get this constant increase in velocity up until the point of landing but if you average the velocity out across the flight path you just end up with (0+0.0207)/2 which equals 10mm/s, close to the correct value if i used all the decimal places
@cewkins721
@cewkins721 4 ай бұрын
Just to be clear its: (2.9596*10^-3) * 8.037 = 0.0238 m/s divide by two yields 0.01189 or approximately 11.9mm/s Edit: what i am trying to say is that in this particular context/case it assumes that the projectile is travelling along with all the points at the same velocity, once its thrown south/north the acceleration produces the same effect of deflection for every point down range, the points closer to it will have less deflection due to the fact that the projectile gets there faster so the acceleration term isnt big at small values of T, but the further away it goes the bigger the effect, but because the initial tangential velocity is zero then the final velocity cant be the relative velocity otherwise the deflection distance wouldn't be right, if you average the velocity out you get the correct relative velocity, I hope i explained it well enough but it is confusing

Sine (666) + Cosine (6×6×6) = -1.618... (negative golden ratio). 37(1+1+1)=111 .... 37(9+9+9=999 ... While the golden ratio is not a fundamental constant in physics, it does appear in certain physical phenomena, particularly in the structure of some natural systems, like the arrangement of leaves on a stem, where the spiral patterns often exhibit the golden ratio, leading some to explore its potential connection to physics at the quantum level and in black hole physics; however, its presence is not ubiquitous or considered a core concept in most areas of physics.

Did you take care about the spin and the surface of the golf ball?
@holdmybipolar
@holdmybipolar 15 күн бұрын
This problem doesn't take that into consideration. A visual for this problem is best seen in long range guns. Lets say you made completely straight 1/4 mile long frame and mounted the gun at one end. Lets say this set up is at the equator and pointing either east or west. After firing a few rounds you adjust the bullet to fly completely straight with the frame. Then you are able to pick up the frame and move it 90 degrees to the north or south. When you fire the gun the bullet will be way to one side or the other. And I actually misspoke on "way to one side or the other" Because at the equator there will not be that much difference. But if you are at 45 degrees latitude. Going north or south is the fastest way to be spinning a smaller or larger circle around the earth. Misspoke again: I think shooting this apparatus at the north pole directed south (any direction in that case) will produce the most amount of error. To look down on the earth from the north pole (or south pole) the earth is a big 2-D merry go round. There is great videos of people trying to pass a ball back and forth on a merry go round by throwing straight at the other person. The ball will veer off to the side. You can't throw the ball tangential to the merry go round but you can on earth because of gravity the ball will hug the earth and come back down on the tangential path.

Not sure where you went wrong with part a. The work you write is messy and numbers are introduced way too soon. For the time I get: t = (2*R*tan(theta)/g)^0.5, Where R is the range and g is the acceleration due to gravity. Plugging it in a calculator you get 8.03 seconds. The other parts I'm getting b. 379 m/s c. 0.0126 m/s d. 0.101 m. I've assumed 86400 seconds here for the revolution so my numbers might be off by a fraction of a percent to someone who did the 86160 s or w/e it is.
