Red-necked Grebe / Rothalstaucher

The nest is well over the momentary water-level . If now the eggs only don`t get stolen (e.g. by cheeky coots, heron or cormorant) , there are real good chances for hatchlings. it would be the first time since I watch this lake, about seven years.
Das Nest ist ein gutes Stück über den momentanen Wasserstand. Wenn die Eier jetzt bloß nicht wieder gestohlen werden (z.B. von den frechen Blässhühnern, Reiher oder Kormoran), gibt es wirkliche Chancen auf Küken. Das wäre das erste Mal, seit ich diesen See beobachte, ca. sieben Jahre.

Vielen Dank , liebe Lele, oh ja, sie haben es so sehr verdient- wenn es klappt, erfahre ich es über die Schäfersee Facebook Gruppe, da ich noch in Norwegen sein werde. Habe noch kein Video gemacht, aber schon spannende Vögel gesehen, vorüberfliegen oder zu weit weg ( meine ersten Singschwäne in Freiheit) , ein paar Fotos , und noch viel mehr Vogelstimmen gehört, die Vögel verstecken sich aber auch verdammt gut😅 Neues Material wenn ich zurückkomme, wir haben viele verschiedene Sachen zu tun. Thank you so much dear Anita- these days I visit them at least once a day (with bicycle it's just ten minutes from my place, aswell keeping an eye on the Swans who sure will succeed if they don't get attacked again. Haven't seen the other regulars so far, Great-crested Grebes - hopefully their nest is inside the reeds(?)There's more little coots and ducklings to expect. On the lake are a few Gulls, a Cormorant, sometimes two and a Grey Heron, but these last three I never saw breeding there-but never say never 🤗💚Have a very good new week my friend.

Thank you very much, Knut. I hope it so much after many years of "miscarriages". The nest is better and higher above the water-level than what I`ve seen before and it's well away from the bank, at the end of a fallen tree, so vandals would most likely not even see it. Now it`s just the egg-predators, of which there are a few, but already three Mallard mums were successful, so there are good chances. Recent years it was quite sad to watch, the poor Red-necked Grebes would keep on breeding for 50 and more days. But these are not overdue, it could happen any day now, latest next week.
