Stupid question but obviously with use in sparing and training the would would get dints in it?

There's not really an easy answer. It really depends on how hard you are sparing, If you are hard sparing must likely this will get dented or break. If you mainly use the staff for forms/pattern work and a little bit of light sparing then it should be fine. The staffs we get in a good quality but it really depends on the individual user. Hope this helps!

Helps with smoothness in the spins.

There are a few things, one its lighter than a straight staff as there is just less wood, it has less air resistance so it moves through the air quicker. Also for strikes on the ends and tips there is less surface area so will have a higher amount of impact psi. Sure there are other reasons though
