We are accustomed to seeing aircraft in camouflage colors. The Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen, painted his aircraft red as a threat. A challenge. "Here I am. I'm not hiding. Come out and fight!" He shot down 80 of his opponents, more than any other pilot in WW1.

i'd say yes and no?, this was still in that transition period where camoflague was not really in use, and you used markings to differentiate between friend and foe, and in a fast (relativly to modern) combat situation, you'd need to recognize your allies and foes fast, wich is partly why very visible colours was used

@@LaserSeQ You'll be rather hard pressed to find any Allied aircraft with bright paint. Green and brown were the order of the day, the only exception being the red, white, and blue roundrels on the wings and stripes on the tails.

@@TimberWolf762 Indeed, Jasta 11 painted their aircraft with such bright colors because they saw themselves as knights of the air and used those bright colorschemes as personal heraldry of sorts, that's likely why they were given the nickname of 'The Flying Circus' by the allies, those bright colorschemes and daring aerobatic maneuvers evoked the thrill of circus acrobats and highware acts, which were equally fraught with danger. Jasta 11 also likely got more resources allocated to them due to their kill counts as a reward from the German command, as they were by far the best performing Jasta in the German air force. Other Jastas didn't paint their aircraft in such gaudy colors, and the allied forces certainly didn't, mainly due to the rate at which aircraft were lost on the front.

He shot down 22. Jasta-11 (including him) shot down 80 Edit: fixed misspelling for Jasta

He is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories.

Richthofen's death is probably a combination of bad decisions because of the bullet in his head and suicide. He saw his brother being attacked by a Sopwith Camel, counter attacked and gave chase. It's possible that his head injury caused him to follow it far behind enemy lines, disdaining his own rules but he did also know that he soon should be pulled off active service because of his injuries, and he couldn't accept that. He didn't want to be grounded, going around to talk about flying giving morale speech but not being available to fly again. His last word "kaput" can be about himself, that his spirit was broken.

Hm well there was one person who wanted to go to war. If you haven't listened to it yet, then check out Sabaton "the Unkillable Soldier". That is a man who was born for war, it would seem.

The best part of sabatons music is the history behind it (I know the music is going to be good but what is the story)

I get the sentiment but "I respect anyone, who serves in ANY of the armed forces in ANY country of the world" is just ridiculous.. really? You respect the russian soldiers with what they do in Ukraine right now? The soldiers of the military dicatorship in Myanmar, after their violent coup against the elected government and the genocide of the Rohingya? The Soldiers of the Junta in Mali? Of the Syrian regime? etc. I think you might want to be a bit more selective with who you give your respect to or it really means nothing
