The originators of the musical genre were Tinariwen, a group of musicians within camps sponsored by Gaddafi who formed their group in 1979. Tinariwen was the first Tamasheq group to feature electric guitars; they are considered the originator of the style. During rebellion against the government of Mali, Tinariwen's music was spread via audio cassette through the camps. In the early 1990s the group began to gain wider exposure through association with the French band Lo'jo.

There is no online evidence that this recording existed anywhere before 2024... not cassette, review, or in any other form. So perhaps it really is AI. The genre is well known and the structure is pretty straightforward, so not hard to imagine that it's in reach with current tech, but impressive nonetheless. Still it doesn't serve art making and "self-expression" to pretend this is human made, and should be withdrawn as a misrepresentation.

@@jaylow759 This is a pretty simple and erroneous syllogism you did there. Man created machine - machine created music - therefore man created music. Excuse me but that doesn't stand, not one bit. For music to be considered created by man, there must be more human involvement in the creative process than simply feeding the AI some information and letting it transform it into music. Human music must have human intents, i.e. melodies/rhythms/harmonies resulting of a conscious or unconscious process happening through the brain and the body of the musician. I do agree that working on a modular synthetizer can come close to working with AI, especially if you don't know what you're doing and the fucker goes apeshit, but this is far from just typing some text in an AI app and selecting the desired results. Not saying the process isn't interesting, the "creator" just needs to be open about the AI component of his "work".
