I'm very sorry to hear that brother especially from a fellow reefer. Well just keep what ya can, and just enjoy what your gonna have left. And I have faith that you will be able to get it back eventually and hopefully sooner then later. I got you and your family in my prayers my man. Stay strong for the family you got this. Take care. Peace.

That's well laced out beautiful tanks.

Nice SPS dominated tank and great fish!

Sorry to hear that you are shutting the tank down. Unfortunately energy costs are going up all over the world. I can see how it would be difficult to part with those tangs and the rest of your fish. They become like family members.

Tank looked amazing! What strategy did you use to turn it around after the flatworm issue? Pull and dip everything repeatedly? Or just baste and live with them?
@TwoScottishReefers Жыл бұрын
The flatworms seemed to only attack certain Acropora and leave others alone. In the end I started dosing some aewf x that was supposed to help and I just pulled and dipped the ones that were worst effected. Ultimately I only managed to save frags of the ones they had a taste for and I shut the tank down while dipping all frags regularly for weeks that got moved to the new tank. That wiped out the worms.

That's a shame mate, especially the tangs, some cracking corals too but at least you can take frags over 👍

How did you defeat your AEFW?
@TwoScottishReefers2 жыл бұрын
I never really, they ate all the corals they were going to eat. A lot of acropora seemed to be immune. The AEFW were very picky about what they went after.

Does the power used for a Reefer 350 compared to nano or nano plus a smaller Reefer like 250 really make a difference per day, week, month, year in energy costs? I think not. A few Pennie’s to a few pounds/ dollars at most per day to per year. Sorry, just a ridiculous reason to reduce or eliminate a tank.
@TwoScottishReefers2 жыл бұрын
I don't think you really know what you're talking about. It makes a massive difference. The cost of electricity in the UK is currently insane and is going to double over the coming year. When everything is running the tank uses 900w. The lights alone are 424w on 10 hours a day. I have a power monitor running that calculates exactly how much it's costing me to run the tank and I can use that to work out how much it's going to cost over the next year. When I factor in the cost of salt and dosing and everything else on top of the electricity it starts to get into the realms of madness.

Even just reducing the temperature of a tank can save a lot over a period of time. For example, a 30 Gallon tank heated at 72 F (22 C) will consume approx. 110 kWh per year. The same tank heated at 82 F (28 C) will consume about 440 kWh per year. That is 4 times as much! So a few pounds/ dollars at most per day to per year is not the case.

Truly opinionated. What is the savings going from a 350 to a 150 based on your power costs. That’s the difference that matters compared to, unless you are shutting down completely and not substituting in something smaller.
@TwoScottishReefers2 жыл бұрын
@@atfinthehouse8631 I understand what you are saying. To make a significant difference you would need to go from a large tank to a very small one. However, I have been thinking of shutting it down for a while. The increase in energy costs is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Also in the uk we are paying the equivalent of $6 a gallon for gasoline.
