Seattle said no to us regarding any starters. Supposedly we’re out on Yamamoto and we’re not going after QO players. We needed two very good starters, I’d love Montgomery, but Henry won’t do it. Everyone else is reclamation project. Full throttle, may ass.

Seattle had good reason to though. High quality arms is a scarcity in today's market and even more so if they're young and controllable, which is what Seattle has. This is the reason why eyes are already set on Roki Sasaki even though no one knows when he's actually going to come over (which could be 2027 at the latest). It's also why it's necessary for the Sox to splurge in free agency for Yamamoto & Montgomery/Imanaga because once the dust settles, expect the asking price in the trade market for the likes of Kirby/Gilbert to be through the roof especially when someone like Cease required Bello to be included. I don't think we're 100% out for Yamamoto but it's shaping up to be a very atrocious offseason that should have the fans furious af.

I get not wanting to overbid for a guy like Seth Lugo, who's solid but not exactly going to eat up innings, which is what the Sox need... that being said, missing out on the better FAs available with the writing on the wall that they're also not going to sign Yamamoto... tough look and I'm not sure if signing (possibly overpaying) Jordan Montgomery is enough to get into the playoff hunt with the Yanks getting Soto and the Orioles still being as good as they are.
