Teams have been stealing signs since the 1950s the 1951 Giants use technology at that time to steal signs it's going to happen whether it's by technology or by real-time if you do it after a game if you decipher it that's gamesmanship it's the same way in football if a quarterback comes up to the line and the other team is able to figure out what the check is in real time and what the audible call is. that's gamesmanship because that's based on film study of the other team and figuring out hey this is their strategy in this situation. where I have the issue with is when teams do that in real time when teams use technology in real time to steal signs and steal calls.

I mostly agree with Michael Kay, but there is one key element to this scenario that makes me disagree with you. If the report is correct and they had a camera pointed directly at the catcher watching the signs specifically, then it is very much cheating. Yes, the signs can still be seen on live broadcasts of the game, but the camera views are bouncing all over the place and is not showing every single sign work up given by a catcher when there are players on base. If they can figure it out from the live broadcasts and figure it out, then I'm right there with you Michael. If they have a camera of their own pointed directly at the catcher watching their signs, then it's cheating.

It's not their camera being used here, it's the cameras the umpires use to review challenges. These exist at every ballpark, this room is usually where the managers are looking when they have their hand up to the umpires waiting to find out if they should challenge. Lesser extent of cheating than the Astros but still cheating.

It’s the same exact same thing Michael. Electronics were used in real time to give the Red Sox a clear and unfair advantage. Both circumstances involved a fixed camera and men working behind the scenes to decipher the signs, which were relayed to the team. The only difference is the delivery method to the batter. Players have cheated since baseball was started. Some of the way these guys cheated in the past were clever. You can say gamesmanship, but in the end if you get caught doing it then its still cheating. If I rob a store and dont get caught does that mean that everything is ok? The key to this is not how hard the punishment is, it's about how much impacts can the punishment put on every single team and how the league prevent treating happen again. A pitcher doesn’t have a defense for giving up a home run. Tremendous advantage to know what pitch is coming. You can’t compare NLF defensive alignments to MLB ones. For the most part baseball players are on defense to stop balls hit to or near them. NFL players line up and try to stop plays all together

The whole league was juicing during the steroid era was it ok? No but wasn't planned out like the Red Sox and Astros did. Those are much worse than anything during the steroid era. So all of MLB was cheating during the steroid era so it was even. So no the Yankees are not getting anything stripped.

@@bobheck7303 I'm pretty sure every team would be able to implement a system where IF the pitcher shakes off the pitch that the coach is calling, then the catcher could give a sign for a different pitch. I'm pretty sure quarterbacks in the NFL don't agree with EVERY play being called and are able to communicate to their coaches/teammates what play they want even while they're on the field. If MLB is willing to increase the amount of technology being used in the game on an annual basis, then I think they should be using that technology to actually improve the game instead of just making it so that teams can cheat and/or create a 5+ minute stoppage in play to review a call.

@@bobheck7303 Calm down. I'm not saying I'm 100% right, I'm literally just proposing solutions to the current problems going on in Major League Baseball. I'm a catcher and almost every time a pitcher shakes me off they end up giving up a hit. I would say that in 90% of cases it would be way smarter for the pitcher to just shut up and throw what they're told to throw by their manager/pitching coach. I'm not a pitcher but I HAVE pitched, so I don't see how it would be difficult to wear a tiny earpiece in order to receive instructions on what to throw. Technology has come such a long way and I'm sure MLB can figure out a device that would work for pitch selection to be an easy process without needing to go through a sequence of signs before EVERY pitch. There are tons of brilliant minds working for MLB, I'm sure they can find a solution.

Require all broadcast and footage to blur out the catchers mitt when he signals otherwise if caught with non blurred footage to be immediately suspension. One other idea is to let the catcher use an electronic device so no physical signal, that might lead to hacking but just an idea.

Not including me singing The Meet the Mets song in the Bar at George Steinbrenner's Tampa Hotel that brought out from his "Clipper" office Mr. Steinbrenner himself. We talked and he was very polite. He remembered me after the Oakland A's had left Colonie where the Yankees moved their AA affiliate ( Before later moving to Norwich CT ). I had worked for the A's. A job I got from Ricky Henderson. I met Ricky after having suffered an injury while as a member of The 82nd Airborne Division. I was asked to stay on, but it wasn't enough money to support a family. George Steinbrenner had flaws, but his genorosity in which things were made secret just as God wants. He was a good man. My money was no good the rest of the night. He even had his driver bring me to a Publix and back. His front desk person; she was extremely nice. So, more to follow...
