I just rescued a humongous red tailed in my livingroom. I've never seen a bee that big before, it gave me enough of a fright that I went straight to Google to educate myself.

If it's that big, possibly a Queen.

I'm trying to identify the bees which took over a blue tit nesting box a few weeks ago. They look very similar to those in your video, so I think they're probably red tailed. Bees fascinate me, I could watch them for hours. Thank you for your lovely video.

:) If I heard that sound I'd be out side as quick as I could to look at them all. I saw one today while out walking. I stopped for a minute just to watch it.

Thanks Sue, I will do that. I have just planted a lot more flowering herbs for next year. It was a very good summer for the bees & butterflies; I am missing those warm days already. I have been out this morning in the cold & rain filming Golden Plover & Fieldfare flocks. Have a good weekend, Maurice.

Great Video, I believe the nest was a little over heating hence all the bees fanning at the entrance. The new Queen looks pretty awesome there. Our Red Tails where late this year starting colonies but oddly enough our Bombus Magnus white tails where a month early and the Bombus Terrestris where about right. Just subbed to your channel after watching this video. Keep up the good work.

Many thanks for your very kind comments. Last year I had a Tree Bumblebees nest in one of my bird boxes. I have subbed your channel as I am always interested in finding out more about bees.

Yes old Blue Tit Nests are loved by Bumble Bees especially the Tree Bumble Bee. I have a stash of Bird boxes well 10 that I keep in the shed Then if the Tree Bumbles or White tails use it. I relocate the bees and put the Birds a brand new nest box up. Thanks for subbing, I will be uploading some new videos soon. I really like your wildlife vids.

Take the nest from the direct sun exposure! They feel uncomfortable - is too hot for them! Instead to spend time for other business, they spend energy and time for cooling their nest!

Excellent footage Maurice. I have never managed to find or even chance upon a bumble bee nest of any kind. Wasp nests yes but never bumble bee.

Thank you Tom. The following year I had a Tree Bumblebees nest in another nest box, but nothing this year as there seemed to be far less bumblebees about.

Nice capture, I don't think they preserve their nests through the winter so I believe the nest can be removed in the hope they may use the box again when looking for a home in the spring.
