@@ferrisakel I have actually flown with/next to a California Condor while hang gliding at Crestline Park, in San Bernardino, CA back in '79. I was up around 10K feet when I noticed I was being shadowed by a very large bird, as I soared above Lake Arrowhead. It was just below me looking me up and down, but I must have made some noise (a gasp, perhaps), as it suddenly turned back behind me and got lost in the background. Only after talking about what I saw and describing the bird did I come to realize it was a condor. One of my favorite memories.

Does anybody know why a hawk would drop it down to your level and levitate hovering about twenty yards right in front of you staring at you? I had this very strange experience yesterday well walking on the train tracks . I'm very curious because I'm obviously way too big for a hawk to eat he flew down low almost to eye level with me and seemed to be levitating while flapping his wings in the same place while staring at me for about 15 seconds. If anyone can explain while hawkwood do that I would love to hear it
@ferrisakel10 ай бұрын
Well, if it was a Red-tailed Hawk, I'd say that behavior is not typical, but it may be that it had dropped down in response to the sighting of potential prey on the ground, but then noticed you, a potential threat. If it was another bird of prey species that hovers in such a fashion on a regular basis, what I described above is also possible. I am obviously guessing, as I did not witness your experience, but I feel it is reasonably likely.
@maryansell-eb4et10 ай бұрын
@@ferrisakel thanks, I've never seen anything like that before it was so crazy it kind of scared me for a minute and I was with my boerboel she's an African mastiff she was in the bushes at the time and she was still in the bushes when the hawk left. It was honestly kind of majestic. But I just couldn't imagine that he would think of me as prey as I'm a fully grown 135 lb adult.
@ferrisakel10 ай бұрын
@@maryansell-eb4et You're welcome! I would just like to stress that it would not think of you as a potential meal, but as another creature that presented a threat to it. Anyway, birds can be truly amazing.

How high can red tail hawks fly. Yesterday I was in the pool. I always like staring at the sky. I seen a hawk. It was up there. Never once moved a wing either. Just soaring. It appeared that it got into a wind draft and kept rising eventually flying through the clouds where I couldn’t see it anymore. I had no idea they went that high
@ferrisakel Жыл бұрын
I may not be able to answer your question, but I can provide this video you might enjoy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHLUmYV7g5elpqM

@@ferrisakel thanks. Video is awesome. It was really hot that day. I wonder if they went into the rain clouds to cool off cause really isn’t much water around my area for them. I guess they could find water. But I think if I could fly I would definitely go into a rain cloud and cool off. So neat seeing them go and disappear into the cloud like that. Also the day before one flew very low over us at a very high speed. It was really moving and again not even moving it’s wings. Just soaring for seemed like a mile
@gotnokush Жыл бұрын
@@ferrisakel this is weird I know but all my life I have a reoccurring dream that I can fly. It’s so neat. I run for a little while and jump and then I’m winging it all the way up and then I soar. And eventually I come down and always wake up. Those are the best dreams. I feel like I know what it’s like to fly because of that.
@ferrisakel Жыл бұрын
@@gotnokush Thank you! They will often reach high altitudes, but I rather doubt they would fly into, or even reach, ordinary rain clouds. Red-tailed Hawks will occasionally seek out water sources, but I believe they take in most of the liquid they need through the prey they catch.
@gotnokush Жыл бұрын
@@ferrisakel maybe it wasn’t a hawk. Two of em circling very high and did go into a dark cloud. Maybe a buzzard idk. I was thinking they were hawks. Thanks tho.
