Red Velvet - Happiness (MV REACTION)

Group Reaction! This time its to SMTown's new girl group Red Velvet. Before watching it, we had heard stuff about the video; like how it had some controversial ideas. The song itself was pretty good, but after reading the lyrics over, we think that it's been blown out of proportion. We thought this MV was interesting though and may make another video to discuss this - but for now we'd like to know what you guys thought and what were your perceptions on this video? Well the lyrics apparently explain the most about those controversies and such. Months much explain, but give understanding to why SM used those images and how they portrayed it. But I agree, they announced them 1 week ago, and now they are here, it was a bit rushed, but the girls have talent, but are getting so much hate too, it's very sad

Why show stuff 'bout Japan & US though ? Why not show something 'bout their country ? Since this is KPop, wouldn't it make more sense ?

They actually announced back in November if I recall correctly, that they'd be releasing a group in 3rd Quarter 2014. And look, here they are! lol

Tammy Phan well the majority of their fans are from other countries, mainly the US and Japan etc. i agree they didnt have to use those, but those are the ones that affected the world as a whole the most, and happiness is not confined to any person, place or thing.

Darren Nguyen There's no justification for defending SMent. Those who are responsible for editing the MV are simply a bunch of ignorant and insensitive empty heads. They should have put themselves in the shoes of the survivors and the victims' families/friends and thought about it twice before idiotically adding the imagery to the MV. Are they only 5 years old who's too young to be thoughtful??? Besides, the song is as bland as it could be for electro and dance pop, totally SM style.

SM chose to use a really deep meaning of corruption, money and power in the world and covered it up with super cute pop mv and girls. Lol SM lol. What are you trying to say? That you guys will worry about the money and power so RV can keep dancing? It's interesting they picked a dark reality of the world to put within the mv and the whole time we are just like, "Ooo pretty colors. HAPPINESS! Cute and precious girls. HAPPINESS! Wonderful and catchy dancing and singing. HAPPINESS!" Haha, no one noticed anything until the article came out.

You shouldn't look at comments etc before reacting to the mv. It'll make your reaction less 'pure', as you'd look for the controversies instead of the MV fully, or what catches your eyes first. It ruins your first impression. Mine was good, because I didn't know. Mine is still good since they've apologized for it and fixed it. It wasn't the girls' fault after all.

The original MV was released on the 1st but due to some controversial imagery SM took the original down and re-uploaded another after making alterations to it. We reacted to the original. - Alfie

Jesper Sandvik Yeah, some point in the middle, the video depicts Seulgi flying a plane around some skyscrapers, previously there was smoke coming out of the skyscrapers. There were also some newspapers in the background with titles on the Hiroshima bombings which i think they also edited out, Hope this helps :) -Brian

Tbh, SMent used to have great songs, music, and dance choreography in the peak era of SuJu, SNSD, DBSK, and SHINee. Each of these groups has their own very distinguishable music color and dancing style. But imo SM has gone downhills quite a bit recently. All the music for different groups sounds typical of the same style - electro synthesized + dancing pop with a bit R&B at most. Red Velvet debut doesn't look much different from f(x). If I just listened to Happiness with my eyes closed, I would take it as another song from f(x). Does SM have a plan to replace them for f(x)? Huhhh? Besides, exploiting tragic events from other countries for commercial purposes is, in my strong opinion, not just controversial, but IMMORAL. Good jobs SMent to further turn away many international fans who have already thought lowly of this company.
