@@Yuseigo That's the problem. The collective will of the human race is capable of achieving anything; in the course of a mere 2 million years we have gone from discovering fire to housing men on literal orbital homes, we've gone from knapping rocks into flint to splitting atoms into pure energy. The only thing keeping us back are those who choose to winge on twitter or watch videos all day rather than contribute to our collective will. Nihilism is a disease which cannot be tolerated.

This song really made me think about my own existence. As Carl Sagan said, most of us have a delusion of self-importance. We have to matter to the entire universe in order for us to feel important. When it’s revealed that we are on a rock that seems so small and insignificant to the black void of the cosmos, some people think themselves small and insignificant, like the planet itself. I then realized that we matter, maybe not to the universe, but to each other. Our actions affect the people around us and vice versa, and that matters. What DOESNT matter is being small. Why should we care? Why should anyone think nothing matters because we’re small when that couldn’t be further from the truth? We may not matter to the cosmos, but we are important to people, and despite all of humanity’s faults, we are worth saving. Even if it’s from ourselves.

It's a year on, but reading this. I had to share: This is why I'm a believer in spread a smile, even if all you do is give a polite thank you for holding a door, or a smile in passing. You're on this Earth by powers beyond us, be that god, be that the universe; the least you can do as a small dot is make sure those other small dots on this tiny little rock hurtling through space feel important, special, and loved. Share a smile, laugh at a joke, be respectfully quiet if they ask, just be the best person you can be...and don't feel bad if you fail, the road is always there for you to take, when you feel it.

There is one lyric I would like to draw extra attention to. “We are the ones we leave behind.” Of course, I’m not the writers, so this is merely speculation, but here’s my interpretation of that line: It is our responsibility to raise the next generation, as they will become the last remnants of our existence. When our body’s decay, nothing of us will be left but the ideas we left to our children. Thus, it is our duty to leave the right message. Please, I love this world, so don’t fuck it up for you and me.

My really long interpretation of the lyrics. The song is definitely about Earth and it's future, which lay in our hands. "Far from the earth, far from the sky, we are no other" No matter where we are we a unique. Earth is unique. "Out in the dark, a lone speck of light, all our creation" Our whole history as the human race on this planet is a small speck in the large dark place that is the universe. "If we're the only thing that matters, then all we’ll leave behind" Humans think they're the only ones that matter, and they'll only leave their history on the Earth. For others to possibly find after we're gone. "This little dot you'd barely find" We are very small in the universe the Pale Blue Dot picture shows that. You'd barely notice us despite how different we are in our solar system compared to the other planets. "We barely crawl, we try to fly, we're all still children" Our race is still developing, but we are growing fast. Maybe too fast? We're still in the beginning of our existence and there's a lot more for us in the future. We need to take our time. "No two the same, yet all alike, we are worth saving" We are all different. No two people are exactly the same. Yet many of us are alike, in many ways. We are unique and it's worth saving and preserving this for the future. "We are the only thing that matters inside our little minds" To many people, humans are the only thing that matters. Those people have a small closed minds, they don't think of other living things as important. "We are the ones we leave behind" In the end, we will only leave our own history behind. Our own mark. Nothing or nobody else's. "You are the moonlight on a mountain" -Unsure of what this means, I struggled with the chorus. "A grain of sand upon the beach" You're a small part of a big world. "You are the dream that lasts forever" Your mark will last forever if you make one. "Are you the best that you can be?" You're not the best you can be. You can always be better, just try. "Are we furthest from the mind of a creator?" This is hard to understand but I think it means we as people are far from what the mind of an all powerful creator would have wanted from us or made us to do. "If all the world’s not by design, this is our future" The world is not run by a god or creator. The future isn't planned or designed. Our future relies on us. "We need a reason we should matter, and if we use our heads" People need to give themselves and others a reason to matter, a reason to continue and make history. If we use our minds together... "We'll leave the lights on after bed" We'll leave a history and mark for the future and forever, long after we as a race die. "You are the moonlight on a mountain" -Unsure of what this means again. "You are a wave upon the sea" You are one of the many moving forward to make a good future. "You picked a time that really matters" We must pick a good time, to start making a better future. A time when it matters. "Don't fuck it up for you and me" Very simply, don't fuck up our few chances to make the world better for everyone.

This song coming out and playing the Outer Wilds have given me a very humbling experience this year, though I've felt this way for before. One day, I will die. This pale blue dot will become inhospitable as the sun grows older and hotter. And then one day, our sun will give one final burst of energy, and eventually over time it's light will fade. The universe will share this fate too. But that's... you know, that's okay! We won't get to see any of this, but in the end, it really doesn't matter. Nothing does. Life is absurd. But who cares? For whatever reason, we're here. And for a moment, we matter; not to the cosmos, but to us. Because this is all we have. This life and this spec of dust we live on. We need to get our act together and treat each other and our home world kindly, because we only have one shot at this. There will never be another Earth. And we still have no idea what's out there. Maybe it seems pointless as one day we and the Earth will fade away anyway. But that doesn't matter. What matters is what we do in that small window we have, to ensure we all can enjoy the time we have left; we, and those who will come after us. So thank you Red Vox. "Astronomy is a humbling and character building experience. To me, it underscores the responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot." - Carl Sagan

If anyone for some reason still needs an example of just how special a person Vinny really is...Let this be that example.

the pale blue dot is one of the most precious pictures ever and one of my most beloved, i want it as a print for every room. you just stare at this tiny blue pixel and can't comprehend. how can we do so many good and so many bad things at the same time, how can there be so much cruelty on this tiny pale blue dot - it doesn't fit. we are all in and on this together.

This song makes me feel the same way I did listening to the entirety of Another Light in the best way possible. It’s strangely sentimental.
