great camparison both spot welder perform well unfortunately the red spot welder lose the event! great achievement to the latest. I have the red spot welder working so well for three years so I wouldn't replace it.

​@@pitikaron Well it looks like you use xt60 connectors and soldered both pins to a large gauge wire for each + and - of the lipo battery side, then you used large bullet connectors for the electrodes? and then I'm wondering where did you get your electrodes?

I used the electrode from package list inlcuded however I upgrade from 10 gauge to 8 gauge and then I cut the tube pipe so so that I can insert 0.4mm round copper. I think it is better I produce a video how to upgrade electrodes and etc.

yeap exactly it is XT60 however if you install XT60 to your spot welding buy two color yellow and black. black for negative yellow for positive for the best identification to avoid mistake connections.

I've heard a few negative comments for the purple spot welder. A few sellers sell fake/not original MOSFETs. hoping you got the right MOSFET to your purple spot welder. Yes I was living in Australia before and now I'm back home to the Philippines. Thanks to your lovely comments. Good day too.

@@pitikaron Hi mate, I'll check it out, hopefully it has good quality mosfets. I haven't ordered any extra mosfets yet, but will probaly get them through RS, Digikey or Mouser so I can trust the quality. This spot welder looks like a genuine item, I bought the full kit, with polycarbonate top and bottom plate, probes, battery cables etc, and it also came with the proper instruction page, so hopefully it's ok, cheers for the warning about fake mosfets too👍 Wishing you are happy, safe and well back home in the Philippines👌

As long as the traces cannot easily overheat when large current pass through, thick traces can act like a radiator. I buy 0.3mm solid copper but if you can find stranded copper 10gauge it's enough.

Love this type of videos, I've got a purple spot welding board, i like to buy lipo battery for the spot welder :my choice were 3S Shang yi 5200mAh 30C/50C or Bonka 3200mAh 35/70C or China hobby line (CHNL) 2200mAh 70C/140C or 4S CHNL 1500mAh 100C/200C. Which one will better ❤

All the batteries you specify are good but if you can find a 12V 5000mah 100c it is better if not just pick the battery with 500A peak/burst discharge Current.

Didn't weld but the machine isn't damage? In that case surely you had the problem to your battery. try to used a battery that can release 500A pulse discharge battery 12V just pulse or instantaneous?

Hello, how hot does it get, cause the BIFRC is also good but it gets hot. so you got to stop to let it cooldown. regards

if you used lower energy the temperatur is normal until 30 energy, but if you increase more 30 up the temperature gradually increase. if you used 99 energy to weld brush and. copper at once 8 spot only coz the electrode getting hoter and the mosfet.

Hi, isn’t an 8,400mah 120c too powerful for that spot welder. Will it not burn the mosfet? I saw in the description that the recommended current should be 100-200ah only. Is it ok if we use more than that. I mean 8.4 x 120 is 1008ah.

8400mah 120C fit to the purple spot welding other spot welding can't. however you must increase the traces thickness to avoid overheat during large current flow through the mosfet. if you rely on the manufacturing traces yeah some mosfet burn and the traces.

The 120C does not multiply the amp hours, it just says that the max current draw (for a SHORT time) can be 120 times the amp/hour rating. That is, a measure of CURRENT draw, not AMP-HOURS... In other words, the 120C tells you about the internal resistance of the battery. The amp hour rating is what it is and does not change based on the max current rating.

Google example. C-rate is defined as the charge / discharge current divided by the nominally rated battery capacity. For example, a 5,000 mA charge on a 2,500 mAh rated battery would be a 2C rate. @@pitikaron Yep true. Well my purple board arrived Wed and I just tested it Sat with the mod board. Mod board has FET Driver, foot switch interface, and buzzer on/off switch. Just finished looking at the FET Driver input and output to gates. My old scope is - like me - old, tired and not too close to reality. But I got a little info anyways. I have the single FET Driver driving the gates via 5 sets of 30 ohm series resistors and 5 sets of 10K resistors for pull down. [Just in case I go totally insane, I designed it for driving 10 FETs, but only stuffed the parts for five..................for now.] I looked mostly at the rise time - fall time was a tiny bit slower. T(r) was 200ns at 3.5 volts [the V(t)] to the miller bobble spot. T(r) at 400ns was out of the miller spot and had climbed to 4 volts. T(r) at 800ns -> 8volts. T(r) at 1600ns -> 10volts. (Channels fully saturated!) T(r) -> 3200ns 12volts and pretty doggone flat trace..... I tried a couple of test with nickel strips - no cell welds - and found that it seems to be about the same as my Red Welder with the FET Driver. Hardly surprising since I used the same sort of mod for it. Big improvement in the rise and fall times. From hundreds of usec to hundreds of nsec. Should make the FETs run cooler and improve the lifetime of the device..... I will need to test it more and make a pack or three to really get a feel for it. For this 1st test of the prototype, I just used my Ovonics 5A, 50C. With the Red Welder my 8A,80C really pops sparks. Probably will be the same with this purple board. Now I have a nice backup if I smoke the original! Thanks for the video and keep COOL this summer!

The only difference is the pulse amp, but be sure the voltage does not exceed 16V

12V RC car battery that can manage 500A is enough but it depends on your needs. However if you can use a motorcycle battery that can weld base on your needs just stick to it.

@user-qi3yo3ho1s: I am getting ready to make that comparison for myself,,,, With a slight wrinkle... At the end of last year, I got the Red one, but make a mod to use a FET Driver chip to make sure that the gate voltage was high enough, and the rise/fall time was fast enough to prevent the FETs from self destructing. Have made about 7 or 8 packs since then, from small 2 cell packs for my airsoft up to 12 cell pack for portable soldering station and it has worked perfectly, That said I did not try 0.4mm. I now have a Purple board on order and plan to do the same mod - replace the opto chip with a FET Driver chip. Given the way this video showed welding thick strips, I think I'll try that with both boards! I am assuming that this board was not modded except for lowering the resistance of the traces with heavy wire and a Sh!tTon of solder..?.. And heavy leads and ginormous Li-ion battery. My largest is 8 Ah and 80C. I am outclassed!! Gonna be an interesting test.
