A rare red warning has been issued by the Met Office for Storm Eunice. Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern has the details.

I hope no one is seriously injured or killed but I can't lie, I do enjoy more extreme weather. Things like this are so rare in the UK.

As this is the third big storm in close succession its getting tedious, ancient Oak trees destroyed, power grid, railways, houses destroyed, and unfortunately a few deaths. Obviously there is more fuss about this one because it might hit London.

I live on the south east coast. And it’s currently 5.30pm 17th of Feb Thursday evening. It’s so calm outside, you can sense the calm before the storm. The atmosphere feels so peaceful. But, I know what’s coming, and I’m bracing myself. Stay safe everyone!

Here in the Netherlands it's also very calm. We only have an amber warning for windspeeds around 130 km per hour 💀

I remember that. Dustbins were blown down the street at high speed. I had to dodge a couple on my way home from work and was worried the bus I got on would fall over!

That ALWAYS happens here in Hong Kong when we have a typhoon! There's always a few idiots who think it's fun to go out and experience all that rain and wind!!!

@@clarissagafoor5222 I think people underestimate the power of the weather for a few seconds of footage or just to be engulfed in waves that can carry rocks or even wash the people into the sea

i’m one of these people who go outside to record the weather I just find it exciting because stuff like this almost never happens in the UK, and i always get fascinated by hurricanes, tornadoes, dust devils bla bla bla, Storm eunice was a one of a kind storm!

@@Babadev03 if you can stand it, watch Mark Vogan (I think that’s his name) he’s done a great breakdown of storm Eunice. A lot of people had noted that whilst walking the dog or such like, how eerily calm it is. Please, p,ease be safe

Not rely since it was in 87 that we learnt and recognised this type of weather. Now they say its bad and could be worse. In 87 they said its not going to be very bad but likely to be not nice.

@@danielcooke9974 yes, there could be hurricane force winds but it is not a hurricane , this does not share the same characteristics as a hurricane nor did it form in the tropics.

As bad as this is, these areas are lucky that a storm of this strength is this rare, and that this is still far below how strong hurricanes / typhoons / cyclones get in other parts of the world. Some places face much worse threats every year.

Storm Arwen got the north east of the UK in November 2021. February 2022 and its the south west's turn. A mild and otherwise uneventful winter book-ended by storms Arwen and Eunice.

Well remember there may be power lines down and dont do what I did in 87 and go in at same time to work that morning. I was only one there and on way had to dodge live wires. Dedication sometimes isnt worth it.

Is it going to be as bad or worse than 1987. Still, I suppose it’s better safer and forewarned than sorry. Although I have to say that some of the so called storms that have gone through haven’t been so bad. I suppose it depends on where you live.

Arrows show what direction the wind is going in, and i’m assuming the bumps are those circles you see around the tag Eunice, Those are isobars, the more packed together they are, the stronger the storm is.

On the positive side - 40% of the UK's electricity is coming from cheap, clean and renewable wind power today. Helps keep energy prices down a bit when the alternative - gas - has soared in price.

@@itsjoy9629 Just because ONE falls over doesn't make the entire technology a fail. We all knows what happens when a fossil fuel pipeline fails or when a nuclear power plant fails. One wind turbine falling over is not a disaster.

@@tg4941 It's got to be the best science fiction film to come out of the UK for decades. It cost something like £5k to produce and was done on Blender software with a home cinema camera! I just find it so awesome. They even did their own makeup. An absolute masterpiece.

Not really. The last storm of this strength was maybe 2007 but more likely 25/01/1990. We are well overdue a storm of this strength.

@@catalickconverta6823 The point is that climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather events. Not that they break the last record. Where there are floods, the climate change causes more frequent floods. Where there is draught, it causes less rain more frequently. Where there are hurricanes or storms, those will show up more frequently (and it seems the areas where there are tornadoes in U.S, the location of them is slowly moving)
