Irelands electricity grid is terrible. Lines should be capable of winds up to 150 Kph but many of the poles are well over sixty years old and have bracing that are embedded into rotten wood. The fact so much of the grid cannot take windy weather is beyond absurd and how it would stand up to the likes of Hurricane Debbie is very worrying. And the amount of trees along roads today is insane.

No, the North only gets U.K. weather, obvs. 😉
@MikeGreenwood517 күн бұрын
I guess you think that because you do not observe ofter metrological weather patterns and how they move in reference to Ises. So let me please explain something that may happen some times. NI is North East. The Cyclones usually arrive across the Atlantic from the SW or WSW and impact first West coast. Sometimes firstly SW coast (Opposite side of NI). So the cyclonic storm hits the land mass which casuse some times resistance. So the clyclone will go east around the south coat (not usually) straight over when the storm is big enough or powerfull enough to step over ireland or it will go North till it turns the NW corner staying close to the coast. So ireland it self has effected the path of the cyclone. From the NW corner it usually heads east across England of it heads to the Scottish coast line. But which ever way it is going the eye of the storm is the storm part which may be directly over NI. As in this storm the Eye is directly over North Northern Ireland. So if u know the basics of cyclones the eye can be very calm with the stronger winds some fifty miles from the center. So Velfast may see some storm winds whilst the majority is calm. All the time over land the land is resistant and weakening the storm as the enegy is being absorbed or sent higher. So by the time the west eye wall hits NI the storm maybe much weaker. The wind dynamic is blowing up and over and when over it is over the sea again where it may gather more enegy and strengthen again before impacting England or Scotland. So NI is not actually excempt. But it's geographic position means the calmer storm eye goes over it. Where as the West Coast is getting full on cyclonic storm. You can compare this with Taiwan where the east coast bears the full on brunt or the windward Isles. The wind pathways are not following political borders but channels and geography. They go around mountains and politicians are not mountains.
