Red you need the ported honda 14cc head i have sitting here with 1.6-1 rockers. and a custom cam. ethanol or 100+ octane fuel on that hemi motor and it will fly. build them like that on mini bikes. HOLD ON. 270s wont compare. also for a street cart cvts are ok but topend will suffer. Old margay with the afromentioned 212 would run 70+ blasssstttt to ride

Try to get a yerf dog spiderbox comes with a off brand honda but bullet proof 150 cc wt cvt tops out at 35 and makes 8 hp but if you put some mods into it it will make about 11

Hey if you could help me out that would be great. My motor in my pocket bike is going out and I want to get a 212 for it. I will be starting from scratch and making my own fab to mount it. You can see my bike on my channel. What gearing and chain should I go with? Also will there be anything else except the clutch I will need to get started?
@RedBeardsGarage7 жыл бұрын
+pacificnorthriders I don't know if your throttle will work off your old engine. If not you will need to get a throttle kit. Sprocket size all depends on what you want. Top end or tourqe.

I love your videos they have helped me with all my go kart issues and then more you have helped me bring my junk yard kart back alive to one of my best street karts... I would love to see more go kart builds in the future...keep up the good work... also I am thinking about making one of my other go-kart Alot faster but don't want to spend a fortune doing if what would be the best way of increasing my over all speed ??
@RedBeardsGarage7 жыл бұрын
gearing ratios are always the biggest factor. Simple mods to start on the engine and then you can move on to bigger internal parts.
@catfisher4207 жыл бұрын
I think you should just do double or triple 212's on a cart. The way I see it you can get 424cc for $198 if you buy 2 212's and the cheapest i've seen a 420cc is $299. Plus I believe the 212's rev higher. I have been playing with a 420cc for the last couple weeks and I am not very impressed. It could be because its on a manco dingo with a 14t jackshaft sprocket and 54t axle sprocket with 22" knobby tires so it is geared for a top speed of around 76 mph at 4600 rpm. I am going to put a 8t jackshaft sprocket on and see if that awakens the bottom end.
@RedBeardsGarage7 жыл бұрын
+catfisher420 I will do a triple engine soon so stay tuned

That will be insane! By the way, Merry Christmas! My wife got me the axle, bearings and hangers for my dual engine kart for Christmas now I just need the rims, sprockets and clutches. I am going to go with 10t clutches and 36t sprockets with #40 chain.

I'm have the exact same cart and am starting the build to make it a street cart. Did you go with a 48" axle? I'm also interested in how you resolve your steering issue. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

+Pete Boruty I'm pretty sure the axle is a 48". It's been a long time since I ordered it. Yeah stay tuned on the steering problem

I had the predator 420 and had a 14 tooth centrifugal clutch to a 32 sprocket on a jackshaft to a 10 tooth sprocket back to a 45 tooth sprocket and running a 40 chain and I kept breaking the chain and it did twist once from the 10 to 45 sprockets. it's was slow and maybe topped out at 15mph it took off slow.
@user-neo716657 жыл бұрын
You had a final ratio of 10.286 roflmao. You most likely have to have an engine with torque numbers in the double if not triple digits to overcome that.
@catfisher4207 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the cluster F*CK you have for a setup! You need 2 sprockets only. Change the whole setup and stay around a 7.00 ratio. I have a 8hp briggs flathead with a 30 series tc with 10t tc sprocket and 72t axle sprocket and it does pretty nice. I run 20x10-8 HI-RUN tractor lug tires. Mine is setup for off road obviously!
@twiztedmowers27 жыл бұрын
catfisher420 well with the 420 I centered the engine up on the frame since it was so wide. that's why I had a jackshaft setup.
@twiztedmowers27 жыл бұрын
my engine was in the front and it had a four wheeler rearend which has the sprocket near the center and it's lifted 8 inches. I used about 9 and half ft of chain total.
@catfisher4207 жыл бұрын
That's a crazy setup!
@joelsd.i.y5267 жыл бұрын
what is a CVT?
@wilberado7 жыл бұрын
Constantly Variable Transmission. It's the type of transmission that the torque converters on go-karts and minibikes are, but there are other types too, some are even used in cars.
@joelsd.i.y5267 жыл бұрын
Travis Wilber so it's a torque converter like a Comet 40 series?
