Ernest Frigelj so premiership footballers deserve 6+ million a year when at times they might not even pay nor perform. My issue really is that many sports are way ahead in terms of pay and they are not putting themselves in the line of fire every week. It’s more that the other sports over earn but MTB definitely deserves to be on par it’s a huge industry with high cost products
@AUSTIN_RIDES
@AUSTIN_RIDES 4 жыл бұрын
It really all depends on what the industry dictates and how much money there is to go around you cant really say that downhillers and football players should be payed the same American football is a 15 billion dollar industry and cycling is nowhere close to that just less money to go around is all

I can see XC MTB athletes getting top dollars. However for me downhills athletes don’t deserve top money. The reason for it is it because downhill it is one sided. I for one don’t care about only downhill, for me I give respect to athletes go go up and also down as they show endurance NA big effort which comes from 100 miles of training.

we also heard someone in the vid say $30k starting out. I have a first-hand report of a UCI XC mid pack competitor making roughly $40k usd(early into their pro career). The amount of sacrifice and work they have put in, is in my opinion, on par with a cream of the crop grad student(who would be roughly the same age), most of whom get 6 figure jobs straight out of grad programs. its a bummer for sure, but mtb is relatively niche

Perspective... Keeping it real... If a woman shows up to a local MTB race, she's on the podium... Its that easy for women athletes in niche sports like MTB racing, cycling, triathlon, etc. Fact is, the amateur men finish faster than the pro women. Yet, the amateur men go home with zero cash. if you want to make more money, pick a spectator sport. NASCAR stadiums sell out as many as 300,000 ticket buying fans... There's a reason those athletes are paid more. Enjoy the fact you can live and eat well for riding your bicycle...

I don't think they are underpaid... It's the football that pays too much to the athletes... Why I say this? Well, how many engineers/doctors and others that have high responsibility jobs (that are responsible for peoples life's and safety or even for people's jobs...) are earning +1million? Still, for some of these professionals, if something goes rong, they may just lose their freedom (prison) or at least their job FOR LIFE. Plus, most of them had to invest a lot in their education and spend a lot of time studying to become what they dream to be while these athletes were already living their job/dream (instead of going through a very long and demanding process to finally start to race...) You can say there are only a few athletes with this level and for that reason they should be valued... Sure but more than those professionals that are responsible for your life or your job? The pressure these athletes feel is only regarding their career, not others lifes or for instance, if their brand goes bankrupt... ;)

Yes, let's compare the most popular sport on earth, watched by millions of people with mountain bike riding.

@@misterlove6225 Exactly. It is not only how good and awesome they are. It is about the money involved in the sport A.K.A, how big is the audience and therefore how valuable is that platform for sponsors.

Not sure why you would hate a sport just because it generates more revenue than mountain biking. The market decides how much these riders get paid. If a ton of people watch mountain biking, then the riders would get paid more. It's as simple as that.

All these riders are phenomenol athletes and brand ambassadors. Given the risks and their short-lived careers, they deserved be paid a lot of money. Also, most MTB riders I know are awesome people!

Forget how much they make, the real question is how much do their parents have to make for their kids to become MTB stars in the first place? Kate grew up in a $6 million Marin estate. How else did she end up where she is now?
