They should run this like a big wave event, wait until the conditions are optimum for big air and safe landings. So much more interesting and fun to watch when there's consistent powder. I realize that isn't practical for competitors and organizers, but it's so much better for viewing.
@randy_dev2 жыл бұрын
They choose a week to do it and pick the day a day before - the prior 3 weeks didn't have any snow and it got 6 inches in the two days before, but not enough to settle completely. Can't really keep the athletes for more than a week with not a ton of $ prize
@Chakirisan2 жыл бұрын

FUCK YEAHH!!! I am so glad they were able to pull through this year, the couloir was straight ice two days before the event. It got maybe 5-6in of sluff over 2 nights thankfully. Props to anyone able to drop into Corbet's in those conditions!!! Such skilled athletes!

sick auto-tune hit at 15:56 I'm jammin' I would also probably recommend against using the DJI FPV for filming extreme sports, it is definitely not meant for film-making. Single axis gimbal, the drone itself is kind of heavy compared to custom drones, which maybe is good in this wind who knows. Unfortunately with this specific drone the rotors are in the frame, camera also isn't great compared to something you could make custom. In any case it's probably best to use a custom made drone, DJI FPV might be good for beginners / recreation but not for a professional event like this.

Impressive, given the conditions. Locally in Whistler, risk aversion has closed many high alpine steeps due to hard-packed snow. Self-arresting would be impossible unless equipped with an ice axe & proper training/practice.

Like they just haven't had enough snowfall?
@misterfunnybones2 жыл бұрын
@@Joeyfingis cumulative snow is 7.4 metres (no complaints there!), but the base has consolidated to 2.3 metres after the mid January top to bottom rain event, with not much since. Late December to mid January was a total powder hounds dream.

Redbull should have spent some extra money on some surface to air missles to take out the drone before they filmed anymore. So much for hiring drone operators off Craigslist... just can't find the same talent on there as you used to... 🤮. 2:15:05 "look at those turns!" huh?

Tough day from the athlete's perspective. Icy conditions, with bystanders crowding out the run top, middle, and bottom. People managed to put together some highlight reel runs in spite of the conditions, which is super impressive. Typical run: ignore the loud ass drone buzzing around your head, avoid people with cameras sitting on the drop-in, send a cliff into an ice chute (gnarly!), get under 60 in time for the next big jump. You're obligated to hit the "crowd-pleaser" at the bottom; clear the cameramen sitting in the middle of the jump and stop before crashing into a blow-up advertisement and a bunch of fences. Look stoked.

I get the conditions, but they didn't draw a competition of "the world’s top skiers and snowboarders" either. Was fun to watch, but I was expecting pretty much all of the men to have runs like the top runs - entering switch, 360 drop ins, 2 back flips or big airs on the couloir and doubles on the crowd pleaser. The crowd pleaser also needed prep work it had a bunch of blown in snow and no reference lines so I think that played into not nearly enough big air. A couple guys even cased the landings.

Most of the riders they invited were inexperienced and just made the whole competition look like a doozie. Constantly falling, boring drop ins, and lousy. On top of that the camera work was sub par and literally felt like a low grade KZbin video with zero cinematography. Enjoyed the competition and congrats to the riders, but I hope next year they set things up a little better.
