My son got the hbx16889 for Christmas, and with just upgrading the shocks to oil filled, it absolutely flies, and handles so well. Stable on jumps, and on bumpy ground. I did look at the Redcat, but I couldn't get it in the UK, unless I ordered £150 worth of stuff!!

Thanks for the excellent review brother! I am fairly new to hobby-style rc trucks. Last one I owned was in the late 80's as a kid it was a Tamiya Hornet I had got for christmas up in Alaska! Wish I still had it. I just ordered the HBX. But I see alot of talk about oil shocks and brushless motors and I am hoping someone could please fill me in on what difference those two things make? What does it improve? I got my 6 y/o boy the HBX 1/12 Desert Buggy and I got the HBX 16889 for myself. We live in Tijuana and we go exercise and play at a big nature reserve mostly dirt and small hills area right by the airport and it is excellent terrain for this kind if rc trucks!
@ReadySetRC3 жыл бұрын
@J. Esquivel Welcome back to the hobby and thank you for the kind words! I'll start with the easy question first😊 The shocks are friction shocks. very bouncy. On smooth surfaces you would not know too much of difference but off-road with the friction shocks it will bounce around a bit, making it a little harder to drive. Oil filled shocks will absorb the bumps better and make the RC much easier to control. Not a show stopper but I would think about upgrading in the future. As for brushless, it currently goes 17mph. Since your are getting back into the hobby, I would say run this through a few packs first get familiar with the truck and then when you are ready for more speed go to brushless. With just a brushless setup change, you should see a 10mph boost in speed. Hope this help.

Hi, first off great video. Question, I just bought the HBX 16889A pro I'm wondering if these volcano Wheels/tires will fit directly to the hbx pro wt no adjustment/upgrade? Thanks

@Scott Gaskin Which Traxxas are you trying to put these on? The 16th scale stuff? If so, they should fit but there maybe better wheel/tire options since these are foamless.

Both Trucks are the same truck. Think about the truck from amazon is a generic truck that HBX bought from redbat and changed a few things other than that both trucks are the same trucks. Also 2 weeks ago from the time i am writing this i bought a 1/10 scale redcat blackout XBE and i only ran this truck 4 times on the road no jumping no bashing just getting to know the truck and when i slowed down to do a turn the part that mounts on the top on all 4 wheels to adjust toe in or out the metal adjuster broke i couldn't believe what happened. I was able to drive the truck back to me the tire was angled out and the part cost $9 and i called redcat they do not cover ANY parts on any of there RCs just the electrics so that means that as soon that you have a charged battery and you take it easy to get to know your truck and any part breaks even know you were driving it nice and easy on the road well you have to buy the parts. redcat use to be a good Quality RCs but not anymore and i regreat selling this truck but back in summer of 17 i bought the 1/10 nitro volcano and it was my first nitro pull start a nice truck and for 2 years i jumped bashed that truck and not 1 part broke ever and i never changed the glow plug now thats greatly made and now downhill redcat has gone. i will never buy another redcat ever again!!!!!!!

@gamingbattlegames1225 The HBX was released months before the Redcat. I believe at the time Redcat was released this car the HBX, was already putting a brushless systems in theirs. I've owned quite a few Redcats and I got to say it's been the opposite for me. The older builds were inferior to some of the newer platforms. Don't get me wrong there are a few questionable models from the newer releases but I don't feel I could say all of their RC's are inferior.

They are literally the same car. How can one be better than the other??
@ReadySetRC3 жыл бұрын
@Justin W They are but they are not, if that makes sense. Maybe it's just mine but the handling does not feel the same, could be the tires but it just does out of the box. The price clearly does not make them the same. If you don't mind giving Redcat the extra money for what is supposed to be the same truck as the HBX.
