If there are two Hollywood figures I can't stand, it's Kevin Smith and Jack Black, they are both incredibly overrated and shoved into practically anything that's slightly nerdy, every time a documentary comes out about something even slightly nerdy. I know Kevin Smith and his stupid backwards cap and blazer are going to show up at some point.

I pretty much agree with your assessment of this one. For me, the most cringey dialogue in The 4:30 Movie were those scenes where one character would mention a film director’s name and the other character would then say, “you know who [insert name here] is?!” as if having this shared knowledge was somehow the most profound human bonding experience of all time. Maybe you could get away with this line once, if it was delivered by a really good actor, but there’s one scene where Smith has two characters repeat this exchange three times in one conversation. Urgh. I cringed so hard I think I might have popped a cervical disc.

I don't think that weed was really the reason why Kevin has been lacking in movie making. It's because he hasn't grown as a film maker and writer since Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma and Chasing Amy. Success early in your career stunts your growth. We've expected more from Kevin but he thought he didn't need to improve because he hit a triple on his first at bat by accident.

Regarding the matter of Kevin and Walt falling out... I'm pretty sure you guys did a whole 20 minute plus video about that once upon a time. It was about how Walt had told Kevin that weed was taking over his entire waking life and then finally Kevin quit and realised Walt had a really good point.

Ive tried taggin him before on one kf your other critiques,cuz i think a video like this, if hed sit down for 20 minutes, hed see real seasoned fans of his point out stuff in a way hes prob never thought about, or forgot that he knew, like editing and having it be lost on people. Cuz maybe eventually hell have another end of life mid life crisis and do something good again. Hinestly his last movies ive seen was clerks 2,zack n miri. I never watched clerks 3 or the jay n silent reboot. I didnt see a point..and as for all the other small stuff,if jt was great, id have heard about why i needed to watch it. Maybe one day hell see a red cow video, and realise that its not just hate. It reall is love. His fans ktove him, but theres a reason why his later stuff just doesn't hit. Hes gotta know the truth somewhere deep inside himself

Not going to lie. Kevin Smith's relationship with his daughter goes from sad to suspicious very fast.
@Sapphire.solsticeАй бұрын
Weirdly enough, I thought this was a small step up from pretty much everything Post-Tusk that Kevin has made. Personally, Clerks 3 and Yoga Hosers are the absolute bottom of the barrel from his filmography, I legitimately don’t think there’s anything that redeems those films, whether it’s within the script or the actual film making. I think there is a bit more thought put into the actual craft on 4:30, and I think it is visible in the final product. To me, it seems the immediate difference between Stoned Kev and Sober Kev is that, for Stoned Kev, whatever he shot was “good enough” and that was that. Sober Kev seems like he actually wants to try things, whether he succeeds is another story. Thing is, I also very much agree with pretty much all of your criticisms. It drags, the argument at the third act break is forced and trite, the actor playing Kevin’s stand in was awkward and amateurish, and Kevin is in a place with his writing where he just can’t pull off that 90s era stylistic dialogue anymore, so it just comes off so cringe at times. Yeah, 4:30 isn’t good, but it feels more…rough around the edges more than it is actually bad. I can see potential here for him to graduate out of making absolute dogshit into…mediocrity at least.
