Just wanted to thank you for the wonderful presentation of the shifter cable install. Your video was one of the best DYI’s for the installation and adjustment I have seen. Great job and I know this is not an easy task. I finished installation on my 997S and the shifter cables and a Schneill short shift kit made a huge improvement in shift engagement. 😊

No problem. I couldn’t find a good video so I thought I should make one

Thanks for posting the detailed video! I am getting ready to install the Numeric cables on my Boxster- the stock one snapped (as they commonly do) and left me stranded on the side of the road. Had to ratchet the car onto my trailer and it has been in my garage for some time (waiting for some free time to do this job). I will order the cables and get it done shortly, I am sure I will be back here to watch the video again! 🙂

The most important part of the video is using the rope to hold the lever on the transmission to adjust the cable 🤣

Great job! Look at all that metal in the parts too! OEM is chock full of plastic. Yours is much higher quality! Well done, mate.

Holding the camera while working on the car must of been a real challenge. I appreciate you posting this. Very informative. This will help me when I make the same upgrade on my 987.2. I want to offer a bit of constructive criticism if I may: The end of the right side shift cable that attaches to the bottom of the shifter looks like its canted all the way in one direction. I would be sure that the socket at the end of that cable is in the middle of its "travel" on the ball at the bottom of the shifter before tightening up the locking nuts. You have a clear view at 32:14. Perhaps you did corrected it off camera, but I thought it was worth mentioning to others watching.

Yes towards the end I was getting pretty tired of it and missed filming that 🤣

@@TheEddysGarage Your video serves as a great dry run for the rest of us planning this upgrade. Many thanks.

Thanks. I tried to cover all the parts I found to be difficult

The. forward jam nut should be run up agains the cable ends not the backwards against the long coupling nut. If you run the forward lock nut back you are doing nothing.....that piece is all one piece and you are locking nothing. Then you leave the threaded end floating loose in the cable end. It wont unscrew but it will have slop. The rear lock nut DOES get run against the long coupling nut The front runs against the cable end. Just remember both lock nuts run forward ....... And technically what I am calling a coupling nut isn't really a coupling nut. it is a long threaded left hand barrel and a right hand threaded shaft all in one piece. It's a brilliant simple way to make a turnbuckle adjustment....but every video I've watch has the lock nuts wrong and leaves the ball ends not locked.

I just did this last Saturday on my 996 c2, super easy diy friendly install, great results too. I borrowed your shoelace method for reverse so thanks for the tip! Access is much better on the 996 but pulling firmly with a shoelace is a nice easy way to hold the lever in place for the cable adjustment.

Awesome. I just put a set on my dads 996 Turbo and the prop shaft to the front made it a bit tricky. Be sure to like and subscribe so it is easy for others people to find the video

@@TheEddysGarage Already sub'd, really like your videos. Saw the turbo install too, that looked a lot trickier than a c2.

Yeah may do it on my car, I have the function first shifter kit at the moment, just that was a pretty decent upgrade from stock

How's the shifter with and without the numeric cables as well? Thinking if the last 20% of shift feel is worth the effort & $s chasing

It is more precise and I can sleep knowing that the cables aren’t going to break randomly like the stock ones

Curious how different this would be to do on a 2006 987 Boxter? Does anyone have any links to that specific job?

I’m pretty sure the early 987 is the same. The later one has one cable on each side of the gearbox
