We dyno test the claimed power increase from switching to APR coil packs and get a bump in power and torque. These are for the EA888 engine found in our Audi S3 8V, MK7 Golf R and Gti plus others from From the VAG brands. Our car is tested with the RacingLine stage 1 tune, a modified airbox (check out our video on it), CTS inlet elbow and a cat back exhaust. The existing coil packs are the latest version and have covered approximately 35,000km so not too old and are spark plugs are new. Worth doing? Yes, especially if your coil packs are getting old.

Awesome. Thank you for incurring the cost of dynoing your car for our benefit. This is the first video I’ve seen comparing coil pack upgrade on dyno. Much appreciated!

nice vid. thanks! 25K Miles on my APR tuned 2017 VW GLI. Going to get these from ecs tuning. They have service kits that include Brisk Silver Racing spark plugs as well. I guess I might as well get those thrown it too... looking forward to it...

Awsome video, thank you for sharing. . I like the effort, details and results you put in your videos. I've followed a similar path with my Mk7r. By the way, here's something not a lot of owners talk about. Going from stock to stg1 (ic, tbe, air filter mod etc) my oil temps actually rose to about 110-111c on a 30+c day with moderate to aggressive driving. I drove like this for about 10 months. Couldn't figure out why my oil temps were high. Changed plugs, oil, tried to vent air out of the hood etc.. here's when they went down.. stg2 downpipe + stg2 software. Holy shit. Same driving habits, now I see 102-105c oil temps. Car feels amazing. My assumption is the stock dp is pretty restrictive with stg1 software and generates a lot of heat that we can't dissipate affecting oil temps. Not anymore!

Would it be good to do the same swap out if I’m stock with no tune? I’m at 60K and I’m just wondering if it’s smart to do. I’m also not having any misfiring issues at all. Just looking for my car to run at the best of abilities I guess

Interesting, I always thought the “upgraded” coil packs were just for show , I always upgraded to them in every car that I’ve owned if it were an option but I didn’t think they ACTUALLY equated to any power gain

Any datalog to see if replacing coils causes the system to advance or retard spark or maybe another reaction? as said, the ECU needs to relearn and maybe this modification causes any response from the ECU until PIDS stabilizes. Regards.

Ur in Australia’s too?! Awesome man. How much did u pay for the APR coil packs if u don’t mind me asking, I’m in Sydney running APR stage 2 on my 16’ MK7 R, currently at approx 60,000km. Would you recommend the upgrade for 10hp? You should run NGK R7437-9 spark plugs, best plugs ever.
