I wanted to give you all a little glimpse at what it's like to deep clean a historic victorian home! I am certain old homes collect way more dust than newer builds 😄! What did you think of the antique furniture refreshes?

A suggestion for your new vintage dresser, move the top drawer pulls to the middle drawer and get new round knobs for the two top smaller drawers. You will have to fill the holes in and drill a single hole in the middle but it would look nice
@oldmaplehome2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robin, I actually did the move the top pulls to the middle drawers and began filling one drawer, but it's not looking so good! I am now trying to come up with an alternative solution :P

I cannot get over how gorgeous your home is. It makes my heart happy that you haven’t painted all that gorgeous wood trim. That just destroys the authenticity to me. That old dresser is to die for. Can’t believe how pretty it was after you got finished with it. I just love your channel. Keep it coming.

Hi Lorraine, thank you so much! The woodwork is the crown jewel of our home, I couldn't paint it!

@@oldmaplehome So many people do. To me that is what makes them. But of course each to his own I guess, but it just hurts my heart when they do. I didn’t see your question when I commented before. I have often wonder how to get old drawers to work smoothly. Now I know. And I have used Old English for my wood furniture for years. It just brings them back to life.

Hi Liz! A suggestion! Take the two top handles off and put them on the second drawer. Then replace the top with knobs or something of your choice! Might have to use wood filler in the holes left on the top drawers.Also live in Michigan born and raised.Love your Home and how you decorate it.

Great minds think alike, Linda also suggested that and it's a perfect idea! Thank you!
@lindacoslet28832 жыл бұрын
Just a thought about the drawer pulls on the dresser. You can move the drawer pulls from the top two drawers down to the second drawer then fill in the holes on the top drawers and put knobs on them. Saw that on another makeover and it looked really nice.

Omygoodness I literally just finished chalk painting and waxing that EXACT same chest of drawers last night! Not sure where you are in Michigan but I too am in Michigan and wonder if yours is stamped with any markings on the back? Underneath all the paint it’s birds eye maple, which is ironic since you’re “ Elizabeth’s old maple home . “
@oldmaplehome2 жыл бұрын
What a coincidence!! I haven't looked for any markings, I'll have to do that now though!

I am glad you don't paint all your old woodwork around the windows and doors. I have an old house too with the original woodwork and staircase and I never painted it. It stands out against white walls beautifully.🌸🐦
@oldmaplehome2 жыл бұрын
I love bright and light spaces, but the original woodwork is what gives many old homes their charm and warmth!
