redeemedzoomer...
A few disclaimers:
1. While I tried to mention everything, what I focused most on was influenced by what I am (American Mainline Protestant) so I focus most on the history of Protestants and American Christians.
2. This is nowhere CLOSE to an adequate summary of Church history. This is meant to give people a starting place to begin learning more in a way that's understandable to all.
3. It's impossible to make this completely unbiased, so I understand that the way I tell some of these narratives are disputable.
Also, thanks to Bill Wurtz's famous "History of the entire world, I guess" for the inspiration.

It's incredibly inaccurate, though. I found myself cringing from inaccuracies just 20 seconds into the video, and it keeps going. What's inaccurate just 20 seconds in is that the apostles were told, that Jesus would come back before the disciples had preached throughout Israel [Matthew. 10:23] or when the gospel has been preached throughout the world [Matthew 24:14] There are also verses where Jesus tells us that he would return before all of his disciples had died [Mark 9:1; 13:30;] "Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done."
@petersbananabread1631
@petersbananabread1631 Жыл бұрын
@@Thor.Jorgensen Those verses are referring to "the Kingdom" expressed in the events like the Resurrection, the Pentecost, or the destruction of Herod's Temple. The old kingdom of Israel is no longer God's sole inhabitance, but he has come into the world for Jew and Gentile alike. That is the New Kingdom (or New Testament), not the Second Coming or New Creation that Revelation talks about.

Little run down of my journey. Not knowing of God in my household until i was 19, atheist, attempting sewer slide and meeting Jesus before me. Attended church the very next sunday with literally anyone i knew. Came to a church of christ. Mostly baptist teachings. Preach in college despite knowing near nothing. Falling out over time but coming back to a southern baptist church. Good folk. Falling out again. Spend years away. Feel the yearning to come back. Alcoholism. Met THE woman to save me. Practically forced me to go to a catholic church (i was scared because i heard they were really weird and worshipped idols). Well that was wrong, i finally found the church that Christ had established. Have really good Orthodox friends and catholic friends now, and praise be to God, hopefully a catholic fiance if she accepts this ring i bought for her. God works exactly how He chooses to, and we can accept the gifts He has for us.

I love how this was inspired by Bill Wurtz. I like this new approach, we need more 'history simplified' channels on KZbin like krispykarim, Bill Wurtz, Trey The Explainer, and Oversimplified. There's not enough History out there that people would actually listen to in this generation, this is the best approach to it. I hope this video pops off.

Quick correction: 4:40 Pope Gregory didn't invent Gregorian chant, but he was the one who called for it to be preserved in writing and organized. He's actually the father of modern-day sheet music. He created music notation so that Gregorian chant could be preserved.

John 3:18 “He that believeth in Him is not condemned; but He that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Revelation 21 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” 1 Corinthians 6 18 Flee fornication. Every other sin which a man doeth is outside the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. Matthew 12 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.” Romans 8:6 21st Century King James Version 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace, Luke 12:20 21st Century King James Version 20 But God said unto him, ‘Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee. Then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?’ 1 Timothy 5:6 21st Century King James Version 6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. 1 Corinthians 6 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived: Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inherit the Kingdom of God. 1 John 2:17 21st Century King James Version 17 And the world passeth away and the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Proverbs 14:12 21st Century King James Version 12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. 1 John 4:3 21st Century King James Version 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God; and such is the spirit of Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come, and even now already it is in the world. 2 John 9 21st Century King James Version 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ hath both the Father and the Son. John 8:12 21st Century King James Version 12 Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, “I am the Light of the world. As absurd as it sounds, this is actually happening in Catholicism. Yeah, virtually everyone in charge is a screaming secularist, but nobody but a really committed Catholic wants to become a priest these days. Priests are completely distrusted with children, so predators don't want to join. The secular world absolutely adores homosexuality these days, so there's no draw there anymore either. The pay stinks. Everyone hates them. Why on earth would someone join? Oh yeah, because they believe. Fast forward ten years, you aren't going to find many replacement bishops that aren't believing priests. Fast forward twenty, you won't find many replacement cardinals that aren't believing bishops. Fast forward one old man dying... Call it being a victim of one's own success.

It makes me happy to know, that God has been with us for over 2000 years 🙏🏼 and how throughout all of this suffering, we have developed endurance and strength. ❤

@Matthew Dunphy Portrayal of Islam is quite inaccurate. Most sources say that the treatment was overall very favourable. Their "conquest" just meant a change of leadership for the people, and they allowed Christians to stay Christians, assuming they would be availible to paying more taxes. That is a great, great deal. I really can't understate that. It was so great in fact, that some people started converting over time to Islam. The portrayal of late developments of the situation is wildely biased and equates to straight up propaganda. Either way my gripe with the video is not the inaccuracies, but what those inaccuracies entail. If you're curious sort comments by most recent and watch me try to make my case with the maker of the video himself.

Please don't take this as some sort of forced conversion. It's just that I recently found out about this book and it's been really enlightning to me. If your confusions regard the New Testament, maybe you could take a look at St. Thomas Aquinas' Catena Aurea. There he covers all four books, chapter by chapter (or even versicle by versicle), giving many explanations from other Saints and scholars, and adding his own inputs for clarification. I know the Bible's language can be difficult and confusing sometimes. You don't have to agree with what St. Thomas claims, but it seems to make so much sense and is helping me a lot on reading more the Bible.

Fascinating! As a non-denominational Christian myself, I learned a lot about the other denominations. Most of theses I had actually never heard of before. With all of these differences among Christianity, instead of put myself in a denominational box, I like to call myself a Bible believing Christian. I believe my Bible and I use it to learn more about God and about what I should strive to be. This video has really inspired me to look into what other denominations believe. Using the bible is the best guide as the bible is the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth you don't have to pick a denomination as I just call myself christian and correct people when they try and put me in a denomination mostly catholics because I go to a Catholic school. As long as you don't follow a false god or a god that you want to exist that believes any differently to what the bible says is moral or immoral as that's Idolitry and its very easy to do if you don't look at the bible for the answer. ( if you think something moraly and the bible says something esle your wrong)

As somebody who grew up loosly in and out of a small baptist church, theology isnt evend discussed and my church has no history after the epistles of the apostles. Its basically a book club where we all show up, the guy who went to bible college (his names Ron, he's pretty cool) talks about the bible fourty minutes or so, and theres ten mintutes of singing and ten minutes of praying sprinkled in intermittently. Then we eat cookies and catch up with one another. This was a fascinating video, although somewhat concerning. As theology was never really discussed, i had long ago filled in the blanks in my head, and as it turns out much of what i thought never even made the rank of denomination. Just outright heresy. Nice point, mainline churches should stand for the truth but its hard because it is affected by tradition. They are needed for this generation where everyone thought that their denomination is right which create more diverse beliefs. Your content is very interesting as a new born-again Christian, this kind of stuff is wisdom. I believe Christianity is a personal experience with God and churches will help you to strengthen it. Also it is important to seek for the Holy spirit, bible reading, Praying, or daily devotion in general to have a clear view on who God is. I'am part of a inter-denomination church which I found more freedom to seek God because it is not bounded by a single church laws yet there are certain rules which is bible based and Christ centered.🔥🔥🔥

I think the thing that most people miss when separating Baptist from Non-denominational is the WAY they teach. Having been raised in a church that came out of the Jesus revolution of the 70’s and 80’s, we teach the whole council, meaning we read directly out of the Bible, book-by-book and chapter-by-chapter instead of the topical studies that most baptist and other kinds of denominational churches go with. Topicals aren’t inherently bad, but hyper focusing on points of the Bible often means the body is not being fed all the messages that the Bible has. Also most Baptist churches I’ve seen, skirt away from the “depressing” stuff, and they don’t like talking about hell, or anything of that nature. Idk maybe it’s different in other places?

Did you settle on a church? Depending on what stage you are of life, I find going to a church which believes in the Nicean Creed, and has lots of babies and kids is always a good choice. So many churches are dying or dead already. And if you have kids or are planning on having kids, you want it to be a church environment where they can grow up with like minded friends and family. And I always suggest to people I meet who are new to church, you don't have to agree with everything and everyone in the church 100%, we are all imperfect vessels trying to be Christ like. Stick it out in one place if you can, grow your roots deep in a community, and be a light to those who live in darkness.

@DSWAG As a person who is turning 18 in March (the reason why I'm writing to you is because seeing a Catholic my name online reminded me of the kids at school). I agree with your statement about how the media is telling us we shouldn't listen to our elders, but doesn't wisdom come with age that's why I love listening to my grandpa and grandma as they have a very different veiw on life to me, one thing that my grandpa would say as a pastor is to find it in the bible, such as the sin of homosexuality can be found in the books written by Paul. I also see this liberalism everywhere especially in places and churches that like to spread the Prosperity bible which isn't remotely close to christianity. But I also see this a lot in the catholic church with it loosing its grip on true christianity. Source: going to 2 different Catholic school ( still going to one) and 5 Catholic churches. I went to a Catholic church and they had a big poster on one of the walls and I had the 10 commandments, but they didn't even have the correct 10 commandments. And I worked out its because no one actually read there bibles they would just turn up to mass and listen to what the priests and Bishop would say then went on there way. So I have written this to you not to attack you as I'm writing this to you out of love but this is a warning to you read your Bible and check what the pope is saying and doing, such as trying to create a one world religion with Muslims (I actually thinks its blasphemy to call the true God and the Muslim God the same thing as there's judges and acts very differently to ours) and Jews. God bless.

Liberalism will eventually run out of steam and its contradictions will become unignorable, certainly by the end of the century, probably much sooner. In fact, we're already starting to see the first real cracks in its popularity appear. @@jamislife5406 there is many different churches from all denominations that are "mainstream churches" because they lie about our Christian faith. You know like about Homosexuality, murdering babies, and other disgusting things that aren't Godly at all. The pope can act on his own will that goes against Christian values I forgot the specific term but it's when the Pope acts on his own will instead of God's which is a sin and is a huge reason why many Catholics dislike pope Francis since some things are his own will not God's will which is wrong. If you read the Bible and all scriptures within it, it points to no other church but the Catholic church. It talks about God making Mary queen (we don't worship her but God allows her to intercede with his permission) and in Revelations and in the Old testament is talks about a woman with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars(mother Mary). It says in the bible that to be born again is through the water(baptism), it says that Jesus told Peter that Peter was going to be the corner stone of his church and that it would be built from him and the gates of Hell shall not destroy it. Saying that Jesus' church cannot be destroyed by evil but people within it can destroy their own selves through sin..... There is many more examples in the bible that point directly to Catholic teachings but if you research it more or read the Catechism you can understand the faith. There's actually a great book called Infiltration that explains the modern Catholic church and how whole we still hold on to tradition and will never change or modernise our beliefs as it is evil to change what God put before us. Outsiders will infiltrate the church and try to destroy it from within which u can see with the German Cardinals(a minority of Cardinals) in Rome who want it to be More secular which is clearly wrong and the book explains how in 2000 years the church didn't fall and won't until the end times so people will try to destroy it from within. But, worry not my Christian brother we all are supposed to love one another even if we were enemeies or have a disagreement and pray for the gospels of Jesus to be spread to all mankind.

@@jamislife5406 Actually, the “correct 10 Commandments” is way more complicated. You see, the 10 Commandments are not actually just 10 statements, there are multiple statements (more than 10) that we grouped into 10. St Augustine (he showed us the doctrine of Original Sin), lived from from 13 November 354 to 28 August 430, he ordered the Catholic 10 Commandments: I am the LORD your God. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods. Augustine’s Ten Commandments separate you shall not covet your neighbors goods, and you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. This is because the Bible actually uses a different translation for “covet” with goods, and wife. So, desiring your neighbor’s wife is different. It also shows that your wife isn’t your property, you may be Head of House, but your wife is not property. It also shows the dignity of Marriage. Protestant 10 Commandments: You shall have no other gods but me. You shall not make unto you any graven images You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy Honor your mother and father You shall not murder You shall not commit adultery You shall not steal You shall not bear false witness You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor What happened was that Protestants (1517, way after the Catholic Commandments were listed), listed the 10 Commandments differently. Instead of separating coveting your neighbor’s wife and goods, Protestants separated idolatry and no false gods. Catholics would say worshipping a statue, falls under the First Commandment, idolatry, therefore, falls under the First Commandment of having no gods before God. And Jews altogether have a different listing too. The first part of the Jewish 10 Commandments is actually: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” Also, Catholics have a thing where the 10 Commandments are the bear minimum you must do to serve God, which their essence is to love God most of all, and to love others like yourself. And the 10 Commandments are the best minimum to do so. but Jesus calls us to do even greater than that, and to love each other, as He has loved us. That is called the “New Commandment”. So essentially, we must aspire to love infinitely like Christ. Also, the Catholic Church divides different things into the 10 Commandments: For example, the love of father and mother, can extend to love of country. In this way, what is done theologically, helps me understand the 10 Commandments far deeper. The Catechism has a large part on the 10 Commandments.

@@dswag8495 there is one problem with your argument if I have understood it right. It sounds like your assuming that Peter started the catholic church. But this is historically impossible as the Romans were pursicuiting Christians at this time, so the roman Catholic church cannot be the first or United church. Also I'm wondering why you don't just kick out the pope as I have seen him praying to a statue of Mary, say that catholics can be homosexual and other obvious statements that go against the bible that should be easy to see that it's wrong if you have an understanding of the bible. One of the popes actions that may send people to hell is: "If they [gay priests] accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them? They shouldn't be marginalized. The tendency [same-sex attraction] is not the problem... they're our brothers." It sounds like his going completely against bible teachings here. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God." I Corinthians 6:9‭-10 Is that not heresy, so shouldn't the pope get kicked out and elect a new pope that actually upholds the bible rather than peoples feelings. To be personally honest I actually really like this conversation I'm having with you as no one my age at school actually talks about religion, and whenever I try they say they don't want to talk about it (they are mostly agnostics that I like to talk too as they are most in danger to God wrath). I also haven't gone to a youth group in 2 years as the only one near me is corrupt and accepts homosexuality and actually say jesus never said anything about so it's not wrong.

I'm Jewish, and I wanted to say that I really enjoyed this video. I believe that Christianity and Judaism are brothers separated in birth- of the same origin yet raised up different. I really enjoy learning about the different denominations of Christianity because in Judaism there are only about ten denominations. We really have a different system. Anyways best wishes to all of of you!

I like how you demonstrate that in a lot of ways christianity isn't just limited to the bible as far as a holy text goes. You've got the Nicaean creed, the council of Chalcedon, etc. that are just as crucial to understand christianity.

early Christians did not have bible, they had Apostles and their teachings, which later become sacred traditions, later compiled by Catholic church into bible "Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours." 2Th 2:16

@gda86pl That’s wrong. They had the Old Testament and were very familiar with the teachings of the apostles. Later down the line people began to forget the teachings, so they compiled a Bible. But as he says in the video, the real universal church hadn’t really split during the Constantine era so it was also the Orthodox Church who compiled the Bible as well as the Catholic Church. So at that point it was just The Church before the great schism.

Paul or Peter I am not sure which one, I need to study to remember, calls his own writing scripture and Paul also said “All scripture is breathed out by God.” So he is basically saying even what we have written isn’t from us but from God. So we did still have scripture at the time, just not a fully compiled Bible. Which makes sense considering actual books didn’t become popularized until 200-300 AC.

@@beastlycrawdad6412 so in the end you say what I said - there was no complete bible until Catholic church created one.
