Nicely done review, Koji. Gosh, I had an OPPO DAC early on too! Not at all important, but finally seeing the Ideon chassis, it's exterior is reminiscent of PS Audio chassis design. I completely agree with you on the step down comparison being more insightful (at this level) than the step up. The Ideon DAC is outside my price vs. performance rationalization envelope, so I’m grateful for this educational review!

I asked a dealer that carries MSB(Discrete)and Ideon(EOS)and he said the latter for his "Desert Island" dac(I had the HoloAudio May KTE prior to purchasing the EOS). I purchased the Absolute Time a week later and about to get the new Sigma Wave USB Isolator.

Out of my budget, and realistically outside of what you should be spending on any single piece for head-fi. Like you said, it's really meant more for high-end speaker set-ups. I'd still love to know how it compares to things like the Lampizator Horizon and Totaldac d1-sublime with headphones though.

@@Michael_mki233 the purpose of this analysis though very very much of the cough and a hot take, is to showcase what is physically possible at the moment in the hi-fi space, I will be comparing to Horizon at a later date and I will do a full in-depth review of this unit because a lot of things has changed in the intervening six weeks Limitation of space is very much a thing especially in modern apartments even for the one percent, and I think it’ is still relevant in regards to how far hi-fi can be pushed, we have seen a surge in the latter past of the two years Pushing the boundaries of this space, it’s fascinating even as an exercise

It’s been on the desk for six weeks, this was more of a taster.

@@a.s.2426 price, pointless quibbling about this, this is only for a subset of people that don’t think about such things Second of all when you get to this level between 3% and 6% performance is a miracle you will never get double the performance, Finally, it’s when you drop back down to the lower categories that you realise those last bits of the performance really bring the situation and joy and live music alive, and you’re missing a lot, going up his incremental coming back down is much harder

@@ConvinceMeAudio Agree with you. I think, in a way, the notion of diminishing returns at the ultra high-end rests on a misunderstanding. 3-6% improvement in sound, sure, but can equate to a 50% increase in spiritual impact and joy. The latter metric ought to be referenced more frequently.
