THIS is absolutely fantastic! I've been waiting for the new album forever... Now seems like it's happening! And holy crap Chris is killing on this one. Well, all of you are (as always) and the mix/production is top notch. Thank you for making high quality music; In a fair world Redemption should be a major rock/prog/metal band known everywhere and an upload like this should have millions of views. And Nic thank you for the great answer/explanation given to another comment in regards to Ray Alder leaving etc. Can't please everyone and regardless, the talent here from all of you is immense - rare these days to see bands like Redemption. Happy holidays to all!

It's been 4 years since the last album and most comments are about Ray... He left on good terms, something that is clear as day if you watch the band's latest DVD release. So, either move on (Ray has released a few albums since leaving) or talk about the music. Nick had to find a vocalist and he actually brought Tom f***ing Englund on board only to read comments like "Ray>Tom"? Grow up. Anyways, great job guys, love the brutally honest lyrics and the message, as always. Can't wait til March.

Well, can't speak for others, but i just miss Ray in the band. He was a perfect fit imo. Just amazing albums like Snowfall/Origins/Fullness. I like Tom in Evergrey/Silent Skies. Recreation Day is an amazing album. But, i didnt care for his first albumwith Redemption. Indulge in Color was great though, that felt like a song that could have been on the previous albums. I need to listen to this new track more, but its better. Someones likes Nevermore heh, which isn't a bad thing at all. Things change, no use begging for Ray to come back, they left on good terms and that's all you can ask for.

Redemption is one of my favorite prog metal bands and even though I prefer Ray Alder on vocals, the last album was great and Tom did an amazing job. It still sounded like Redemption. This song, while good, sounds like it could have been on an Evergrey record. Not just the vocals but the guitar sound and whole darker vibe. I hope Tom’s influence hasn’t changed what was a winning formula.

This driving Classic Metal number is not to be confused with the 2020 Ad Infinitum song - and it isn't as good. But it's not bad either - quality headbanging metal, and the production is excellent. Simply-structured and relentless, it's a good way to spend four minutes. There are fine arrangements and harmonies. The melody is kinda ordinary and the talkie part just interrupts the flow, but I'd be happy to hear it any time. My Score: Good 3*

Thing is Tom sings with more emotion and passion than anyone in Everygrey. He’s one of my favorite vocalist! But for some reason on these Redemption albums it sounds like he is just reading from a script? I really don’t get it? Not sure if he is being asked/hired to sing this way so he doesn’t outshine the rest of the band or what? It’s a shame because if he just sings like himself this would be so much better!?!

@nicolasvandyk58032 жыл бұрын
Ray's voice is certainly iconic and he's an amazing vocalist. When he could no longer devote time to Redemption and I had to replace him (a very difficult task as you can imagine) Tom was the only person that I felt was up to the task -- supremely talented, able to convey the emotion of our lyrics, and a great guy who would be a good fit. The challenge there is that Tom, of course, is also an iconic voice. You have to understand that Redemption ran the risk of sounding like Fates Warning (with some musical differences) just as we run the risk of sounding like Evergrey (again, with some musical differences). Tom and I discussed that point very specifically, and so we have taken steps to differentiate ourselves. Tom doesn't play guitar in Redemption. Tom doesn't write music for Redemption. Tom interprets the vocal lines but they are fundamentally written by me, as they were when Ray was our vocalist. Our compositional process hasn't changed much other than Sean and Chris and I have worked together for an increasing period of time, and Vikram was able to contribute quite a bit for this record. But he, of course, doesn't write for Evergrey either so I don't think his participation in the song-writing should make us sound more like them. In any event, we're lucky to have Tom, as we were lucky to have Ray. We've made music that I'm quite proud of with both. I think of Redemption as having a number of different flavors of songs and this has been consistent over the years. We have always had longer, prog "epics" if you will. We have also had traditional melodic metal with a progressive twist. And -- owing both to my growing up on Bay Area thrash and also not wanting to be dismissed for being "wimpy prog guys" we have always had an aggressive side that combines really heavy music with strong melody. Not many bands do this. Comparisons to them (as have been made in this thread) are inevitable, though. If I can write music that sounds like Evergrey or Nevermore, I consider that a damn good song. They don't all sound like that. We have three other songs planned as releases prior to the album itself coming out. One is melodic metal with a prog edge, one is a prog epic, and one is something a bit different for us where Vikram brought us something really special that I don't want to spoil with a description right now. I don't think you'll mistake any of these for Evergrey, or Nevermore. To me, we sound like us, and always have. And part of that is that our vocalist sounds like Evergrey's, in the same way that Heaven & Hell's vocalist sounded like DIo's. And in the same way that our previous vocalist sounded like Fates Warning's. I hope you and others find something to enjoy from what we do, and in any event, thank you for listening and commenting.
