Guys, I can't believe you've just put it out, like 2,5 years later. Kai's Film has a bigger plot than just individual stories: first he's alone at home dreaming of his future performances, rehearsing, doubting himself, then in Reason he performs in front of people but nobody really cares, when he falls down in Nothing on Me it symbolizes the hardships he had to go through and that scarred him forever, as his shirt will never be as white as before the fall, so is Kai's soul, in the end he's on stage performing in the center surrounded by 8 other men (Kai's position in EXO - Center, totally 9 members). So, you can guess that this is the story Kai went through as an artist and the cycle that is repeated before each performance. Kai put his own money into his debut to up the budget SME allocated for him and that's why the MV Mmmh and The Film are so impressive. He's a perfectionist for who Art and self-expression are most important. This guy would dance on stage just for bread and water, I'm telling you. Also, Gucci gave him all the clothes to show his fashion sense, they love to spoil their best boy, they even sent food trucks to the shooting set. Kai's one of a kind, in his own league. That's why he deserves all the support and promotion, but SME have been suppressing EXO's success for many years, they don't bother to restock the pre-ordered CD for an eternity.

The mirrors thing: kai's superpower concept in exo is teleportation and it carries over to his solo work. So the transitions here feels like he's teleporting to different worlds with each song. Also the hologram thing depict his inner world/thoughts

EXO and Kai's music is honestly market towards the older crowd. That is why us older kpop fans appreciate exo and Kai so much. Many of these newer kpop fans are very young and will stick to the 4th gen groups or will only stick to what they know which is BTS. EXO is just on a more mature route. They also stick to art and their talents as you guys can see. And they stick to the original R&B nostalgia that we grew up listening to in the 90s. They just slap hard

I'm glad you mentioned his underappreciated vocals. He has such an overwhelming presence but his songs hit because he is the one singing them and takes big part in the production. Such a shame his potential is overlooked. His label's idea of promoting him is sending him to a couple of korean music shows and that's it. His 3rd album will be released in March and I can't wait for the new music.

a korean-australian artist called DPR IAN (an ex-idol) did a video similar to this (snippets of multiple different songs from his 2022 album made into a film) and it's honestly a masterpiece. it's called MIITO MOVIE (PART 1) and features his tracks seraph, 1 shot, mood and ribbon. (it follows a storyline that represents his struggles with bipolar disorder) DPR is a movement/collective of artists and IAN is one of the directors and cheif video editors (he's directed other artists mvs too) so the visuals in that video are largely credited to him. i really think you guys should check it out, you'd love it and just him as an artist (along with the others in the DPR crew).

You are right, the film is a story about his life and the higher or inner himself. He use mirror like many times. In Hello Stranger, he stay in a bathtub in a white shirt, and there is one in suit on fog another one follows him. The suit is very similar with the one in final song ride or die, just don’t have hat. So the fog KAI means his outer self or the one he imagine on stage. And the masked man regards me of Magritte drawing, it’s related to the soul, his soul flowing with his body. In Reason, it’s obvious the inner in black and white, the outer himself in green. Nothing on Me, I remember he said in live that the woman is also himself. At that time, the sun did not set already, and in some shot we can see the moon in mirror. Male and female stand on opposite side of the mirror. The inner self ruled him struggled trough it. In my opinion, each song in this film represents one stage of his life, lost, rebel, explore, struggle, and finally get the perfect performance. Film Kai is a completed work, not just a trailer or something

Kai was heavily involved in every aspect of this whole album project. SM didn't give him the dues his talent and hard work deserved and still deserves. I am biased, I admit it, and it is true that awards do not mean so much to EXO as they are aware of how false they are, but even so, this album was fire and different to anything else being done. How was it not pushed for awards? Kai is often dismissed as the sexy dancer, a visual rather than a solo star. This album and his incredible work since proves this wrong. He is the Idol of Idols for a reason. He is an all around talented guy.

EXO is a diamond not only of SM but of the entire K-POP industry.
