I love Mamamoo!!! I don't know much of their history but from I read on comments from other MVs, they debuted when they were a bit older so they do have a more grown and mature sound/look. I don't know if y'all do reactions on funny compilations, but the girls get crazy funny. Definitely check those funny compilations out even if you don't do a reaction vid to it.

They weren't necessarily older - that's a misconception as they're similar age group to other groups like BTS, Red Velvet etc Wheein and Hwasa were 18/19 at debut. Their concept was retro which gave off that impression and Solar used to mention that they used to get comments that they seemed more mature that they actually were. Hence, after Um Oh Ah Yeah they broke that misconception.

Good comments for the first view. Rewatching it will help to unravel some of the deeper connections between the lyrics and the video. Before I get into Aya, I believe you've only seen Hip and Hwasa's feature on the Hook Ga tune so you're right, you gotta check out more Mamamoo as a group and as solo artists. And since you've heard that they're one of the premiere vocal groups in kpop and since they're best live you might want to start with a couple of sampler packages: the Dingo Killing Voice vid, which is a medley songs from their debut song Mr Ambiguous in 2014 up til Aya in 2020, and the Immortal Songs Medley, which includes some of the cover songs they performed on the singing competition tv show Immortal Songs 2 between 2015-17 and was filmed at a MMM concert in 2017. Or if you want to hear what they've been up to recently check out the vocal masterpiece Where Are We Now. This year marks Mamamoo's 7th anniversary and to celebrate they released two albums specifically for their fans: the all-ballad 4 song EP WAW (Where Are We) that includes Where Are We Now and a 2 CD album called I Say Mamamoo: The Best, which includes new recordings with new arrangements of 21 of their hit songs and favorite b-sides plus 2 new songs. The members have also done a ton of solo work in the last 2 years, the latest being I'm a Bit(ch) by Hwasa. Besides being one of the all time great girl groups they're all fantastic soloists. Ok, I'm biased but it's worth noting that MMM was the first group to have all members chart on Billboard as solo artists while the group was still active as a unit. You're correct that MMM's music is more grown up and mature than much of kpop and it shows in their songs about love, sex and passion, where those things are visceral, dangerous and risky business rather than the typical PG sentiments in most love songs. In Aya, the snake charmer music and Arabian Nights costume and set design fit the theme of the song, where love is a seductive fantasy and a romantic tale that's difficult to break free from. In the MV each member finds a different and usually painful way to remove their feelings for the lover and get over the relationship. I think of the MV as telling 4 stories Scheherazade didn't get around to in the 1001 tales of the Arabian Nights: Hwasa as a dominatrix dentist painfully extracting love like it's a bad tooth, Moonbyul killing her love with an arrow, Wheein as the only one who doesn't do anything violent but is seen transforming from a repressed, shadowy woman in dark makeup, veils and hats into someone who magically lights up the room, and Solar as a combo of Frida Kahlo and a female ghost. Solar said the unibrow was a nod to Frida but didn't explain why or the reason for the ghostlike white dress & extremely long hair or the final scene with the dagger. After doing some digging I came up with a theory that might explain the Frida/ghost character. Frida lived most of her life in pain after an accident where her pelvis was impaled during a bus accident. Young female Asian ghosts are thought to be haunted by lost love. Put them together in the context of the song and you've got Solar's character impaling the bowl of her tears to exorcize her lingering feelings. Solar has a fertile imagination and she often makes wild associative leaps. We've seen her connect other crazy dots in the past. Hope you continue to check out and enjoy Mamamoo! 😂

YEAAHHHH MAMAMOOO!!! I stan them because of the vibes they're giving me. Confidence! I really love their confidence. Watching them makes me feel confident in myself. I'm ARMY and I feel like they give the same vibes as BTS does, to me. They're not afraid to break stereotypes of how female idols should be or look like. And they also expressed this in their concert (that was Hwasa I think), that people doubted her because of how she looks like, that she isn't the typical idol figure, which is similar to what RM experienced. I honestly admire them for that and I hope they continue to be that example. On top of all of that, I stan them because of their amazing talent! Their vocals! whew! I feel like they each hold their individuality and work so well in a group. I just love them! Pls react to more MAMAMOO. More powers to you guys! Thank you for reacting to them.
