Nice reaction! They’re a k-pop group. Actually the only self-producing girl group in k-pop. The rapper/leader, Soyeon, writes and produces nearly all their music. Two other members, Minnie and Yuqi also have written and produced for the group. Yes, Hwaa means fire(both literal and emotional like strength/fury I believe) and flower. I think it was a combination of both Korean and Chinese. This song is about finding the strength to move on after losing a relationship. Noticed how it started in winter where it represented the cold, dark, lonely feelings that you initially feel after a break up. Then it moves into singing about fire where they say that they’ll use the flames to dry their tears and warm/strengthen their cold hearts. Then it moves to spring time where they sing about buds blooming into flowers representing the growth one goes through when overcoming the pain and learning from their mistakes of a lost relationship. The fire concept comes back at the end as another example of growth, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. This is actually the last song in a Trilogy. It begins with Hann(Alone) where it talks about a man who cheats and the woman says she’ll stay strong and forget about him, then it moves onto Hann(Alone in winter) where she realizes that she’s too weak to forget him and falls into a type of sadness/depression and ends with Hwaa with her coming out of it and moving on.

I really was like you at the end, but I read somewhere that Soyeon (the one that wrote and composed the song, she's the one with blue hair and rapped) decided on propose to end the song like that. The meaning of this song is really beautiful and more complex than I thought, they have others bops like: Latata (they debuted with this song and made them really famous), Lion, Uh-Oh, Oh my God and Hann. Thanks for putting on (G)I-DLE. The themes are contrasting, vibrant with melancholy in the album they expand the emotion and the concept. The album is I BURN. It is a very aesthetic and diverse album, highly recommend it. I'll say that the the music video definitely has a more abrupt feel to the ending than just listening to the song. Considering the next song on the album, MOON, starts rather quickly - also considering HWAA is the third song in a trilogy, it makes more sense to me now. Y'all nailed the symbolism. The killing move is the rebirth: a flower blooms when Shuhua says Flames come alive.

They’re a group formed 2018 by Cube Ent. and the main rapper is the leader Soyeon her verses are crazier in Lion and Uh-Oh; they’re a very unique and versatile group love them

SOYEON (rapper) is their leader who wrote, composed, & produced most of their songs, and another 2 members YUQI (short hair) and MINNIE (red hair) started writing as well. They range from ballads to hiphop (and even "horror"). I really liked what you said about the group's self awareness about themselves. (G)I-DLE is actually all about their individuality, thus the story of their name "Six different people with six different personalities, coming together as one.". When they're still trainees, SOYEON as the leader never liked them blindly following their vocal lessons since it will "destroy" their personality and own voices. Some info: -HWAA is actually part of a song/story trilogy. SOYEON (blue haired rapper) said that to follow the story, you should listen to HANN(Alone) >> HAN (Alone in Winter) >> HWAA. -They have 3 themes for this MV and album called "I-BURN". They have WINTER >> FLOWER >> FIRE, and they showed it thru their outfits in the MV. -The abrupt ending got us as well. But I believe that it may mean like a fire being snuffed out, (or a continuation to the story will be released). -Like you noticed and discussed, the story can be a simple love story, about break up and moving on, just like this one. But since they, especially SOYEON writes the songs, she always incorporates meanings to it that are up to interpretation and your freedom to think what that means. (I really recommend OH MY GOD for this one). -Since you mentioned ATLA, for me, SOYEON looked like Princess Azula in 4:12. Also MIYEON looked like Boa Hancock (One Piece) in 2:25, and SHUHUA looked like Mulan in 4:23. -The song was actually ready between November 2019 and March 2020, all written, composed, distributed, conceptualized, etc. But they only recorded, shot, and released in last January 2021. They released in during winter (in Korea) so this is just to fit the WINTER vibes of the song . They waited a whole year just for that reason.
