bit.ly/3bFpRsN - Take my UI Design Bootcamp Now!
-- Want to learn UI/UX? designcourse.com
-- Today, I'm going to see if I can improve upon designs that are currently found on the major tech giants: FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix & Google). I'll save the best (biggest improvement) for last. Let me know what you think in the comments -- did I do better? worse?
NOTE: You can find Facebook's layout that I redesigned here:
/ places -- I failed to click on the link at the top, "Check out our new and improved.." which is a significantly better design 😂. None the less, I decided to leave it in just so I could show you how to modernize an older design.

I don't agree with you!! there are a lot of people better than him at the design on it. and web flow is a great tool, don't worry web flow is not gonna replace talented programmers it will just remove the grind of programming, so people(programmers) will focus on more creative problem-solving and complex front end development.
@techjudge8049

@@androidanythingnbpranav7195 I hate to break it to you bud, but Webflow isn't the one doing it, you're falling for the marketing. Wordpress and Shopify are 70% of all websites, and 90% of websites that actually make money, Webflow isn't even 1%. Contrary to Webflow's BS marketing, you can definitely build a website with no code easily on Wordpress, you can just do more with code. I own a web design/development agency that mostly does business with $1 million+ revenue companies and our clients would NEVER use Webflow. They either don't know about it, or the ones that do actively ask us to never use it. It's a glorified Wix, it's only good for simple portfolio websites or landing pages.

You're absolutely correct, you did an awesome job of the last one. I'd really love to see and learn more about designs regarding that kind of content navigation -- or just content navigation in general! Browsing content with subcategories, yet still making it look nice, is harder than expected.

Really liked what you did to the Apple's slider design. The Amazon design, I liked their layout more because all the meta information is at the left. In yours I have to look at left and right and left again to read content. Obviously, the last one was the best! Really love your content.

The problem with the new google is that it will only work for that specific example with one result in the view area. As soon as you get multiple results in the view, all the spacing will just blend them all, you will not be able to easily recognize where one ends and one starts.

I really dig the Google redesign! Adding white spaces brings clarity to the search page.
@mazagoez7190
@mazagoez7190 3 жыл бұрын
while i can see the merit in adding white spaces easy reading and breathing room. but in my experience (years), many clients (and especially my boss) don't want that big white spaces. It creates too long scrolling, it's a pain to scroll etc, that what he always said. it waste space etc. in the end i have to make it tighter, reducing alot of spacing/padding. don't know about others, but that just my experience.
@DesignCourse

@@mazagoez7190 I did mention the scrolling consideration I believe -- but I think even just a few pixels of white space would be worth the small amount of extra scroll.

I've learned more about designing from all your youtube content than any other source, partly because I don't really know what sources I can trust with UI/UX. I agree especially with your redesigns because they make it easier to read the information. As a millennial here I remember as a kid and even when I was in highschool with days of myspace html, it's always been about information. I prefer clean simple non-flashy designs, not only because they appear more professional but because the ease of use, including accessibility factors.

I agree on the Facebook design, your was way better. With the rest of them, there really wasn’t much there to work with, how do you dramatically improve essentially a block or 2 of type. Lol. I personally hate Amazon’s design, everything is cluttered and hard to find the info you want, plus the 3rd party sellers don’t really follow the guidelines. Unfortunately I thought you actually made it look worse. Meh, but that’s just me.

That's the main issue I have when I do design. Should there be no restrictions, I would add spaces everywhere and every design would look like a perfectly balanced Dribbble shot. But the point is that in the real projects you always have a bunch of restrictions, like the amount of content which is essential, the text mustn't be too widespread, if you put too much negative space, users will have to do more actions too see all the necessary content, not everyone works on huge screens etc. Definitely your versions look better, but I bet there were actual reasons why the companies had such and such elements designed like that. Except for Netflix, their choice of font hierarchy looks so weird.

I definitely can not call myself a designer, but I think the reason behind all these "outdated" designs of amazon and facebook are first of all because people get used to it a lot because they use it on daily basis and probably making even little tweaks is a big deal for such huge platforms and secondly specifically talking about the whitespace - if their pages and sections had more proper spacing between elements then you would have to be doing much more scrolling which is a big deal for such websites where there is so much info on all the pages.

Omg I hate their ux! Not even the design! KZbin still don't have a search for the channel, and autoplays all, if you actually play something within the channel. Facebook mobile is catastrophic, they still don't have what twitter always had, that is to continue reading where you left off. The top bar in fb isn't sticky, you have to scroll to the top of the page if you want to go to most recents... Catastrophic experience. I guess Twitter is the only usable for mobile.
