the show were made to attract kids, i suggest brighter/pastel color pallets and to reduce the realism of the outfits a bit, to "cheerfully describe the characters" rather than "realistically describe the characters". one key word: "For Kids"

Fun fact!! In the flashbacks (in the original FIM series) fluttershy was very skinny as a child, as opposed to the other kids who were more short and stocky like your average small pony. I'm doing redesigns so that was my reasoning for making her skinny lol Also I haven't finished the video but I love them all so far!!

She's also the oldest of the mane six! (I forget where I figured that out but I know that it is canon) Edit: I just remembered that in an episode Pinkie does say that Fluttershy is one year older than her, also in the flashback to when they were kids she just looks way older than the rest of them. Idk, she has a similar model to the two pegasus bullies (I forget their names) and they are said to be older? Again idk, all I know is that Fluttershy is the oldest (and rainbow dash is probably? the youngest, I think, idk)

me personally i think fluttershy is into the more fashionable side of clothing because in that one mlp episode she did critique rarity's stitching choices and rarity actually asked her to work at her boutique because she was super knowledgeable about fashion and recommendations i honestly think the only problems she might have had were confidence and self esteem issues, otherwise she did like the uh more stylish type of clothing buttt this is just my opinion and u can do whatever you want with ur art sooo..yeah

I get where you’re coming from but in my experience i think her outfit works. I worked in fashion and at first I dressed very comfortably and sloppily. I was insecure with my body and didn’t know how to dress myself. Over time I became more familiar with how clothes looked on people who looked like me and began to copy outfits I’d see our customers wear. By the end of my time in the industry I became much more put together and stylish. That didn’t mean I didn’t know what looked good and what looked like trash when I first started I just couldn’t apply it to myself because I was biased against my reflection. I feel like fluttershy (based on the artist’s description of her I’m not a mlp fan) might have to go through the same process.

Considering that Fluttershy and Rarity seem to be closer friends with each other, it might just be looking into a friend's interests, whether to understand them better or another reason, hence why she could explain some issues with the dress and yet be fine with the version with only her input(kind of like an art history/appreciation student and art student, one could explain the details that make up a good piece of art while the other could create a piece that expresses it)

I wonder why, out of all things, they decided that the design through line between all of the main girls was going to be those skirts. Like I get giving all of them sort of similar hair lengths as humans, you want the hair to be brush-able on the dolls but....why those skirts. The shoes also strike me as a little odd, even thought I think them all having large shoes with visual elements starting at the knee is supposed to make them look more like horse legs and hooves but it's just such a weird choice.

A general knowledge of the world feels like something she'd already know of her world, hence why Starlight and Sunset could better apply some specifics in their spellwrighting process(as neither went to a school the whole time, Twilight being a part of someyhing prestigious feels like she'd be aware of a lot of things, kind of like scholars during the Renaissance with humanism) By all means, she'd probably be curious of the intricacies to differentiate both worlds, but be too busy in other matters to pursue them much farther than what Sci-Twi or Sunset could send over

Diversity can defintely be good, but given culture ends up being a big part of one's life, unless there's an implentation of that or generally effects from that aspect of nurture, it feels just as underwhelming as the rise in female protagonists for the sake of empowerment, but not providing the character development or depth that would make it work far better

First of all, never thought of the connection like that, so thank you for the different perspective, though personally don't see it as a common hobby/interest. Honestly, while maybe biased considering I try to do the same thing, it feels closer to looking into the hobbies or interests of others to better understand them or something similar(explaining why she could explain issues with her dress, but couldn't design one herself, like art history student to an art student). There is the comic story showing a interest in sewing for Fluttershy, but there it seems closer to as an art medium with a message behind it, mainly expression(fashion can have these ideas, too, but it also usually considers/requires appeal, unlike art, in that even if not for the public, a model will still probably wear it).

I like to think Fluttershy would be the type to wear Light Academia styled clothing, thrifty clothing, and cottage core dresses when on picnics. More so when going to school, I believe long, comfy sweaters are what she wears with leggings and normal shoes, cardigans too.

absolutely LOVED how you re-designed Fluttershy. She was and still is my favorite too so seeing this made me so happy! The only critique I have is that I imagined Fluttershy to have the iconic cottage-core, flowy and gentle dress with a big lengthy cardigan over, to show both her gentleness and love for nature that cottage-core is known for but also give her that modesty and shyness with the cardigan covering it. She just always had this "early spring" vibe to her with the sweetness of the season but also still being chilly and recovering from the winter season, at least to me LOL. Also for some reason I always imagined her with crystals and a thrifted totebag with pins of her favorite metal bands as it's actually canon in Equestria Girls that she's a metal-head PFFF- WHICH I LOVE!! soft cottage girl with a secret love for metal? absolutely yes HA- SORRY SORRY I'M RAMBLING NOW other than that, absolutely loved this interpretation of human Fluttershy! In my headcanons Fluttershy always has really pale skin, A LOT of freckles and she would most likely have natural red hair which she dyes slightly pink so now it’s more of a bronze-copper colour. Love your revising though!

personally i think fluttershy’s palette is perfect given her palette from the original show and her overall vibe, but since i love the earthy colors, i do like your redraw of her. and rarity’s original outfit, imo, was perfect! the best one besides applejack. she had that perfect “high school preppy new money” look. and applejack…she’s just applejack, it was perfect for her, i have nothing to say abt it lol. i do think hasbro should’ve given her a cardigan, idk what they were thinking, shy girls always look good in cardigans. the argyle pattern is on twi’s leg warmers, not boots. at least, i’m pretty sure those aren’t boots. it wouldn’t make sense, especially bc they look like two separate clothing items. but i absolutely ADORE what you did with her design. pinkiepies’s…i think there should’ve been a really cutesy dress with a really fluffy petticoat and fluffy pigtails. she gives very youthful, sweet, slightly irresponsible teacher assistant vibes-like she works with kids bc of how childish she is.

Omg I love flattershy too idk why twilight was my fav back in the day but oh well, some headcanons cus why not: your cottagecore fit is perfect first off all but honestly i see her as an albino and that's why she likes animals more bc she can feel them and they won't judge y'know xdd. I see rainbow dash as either scene or yes i saw that comment adam sandler vibe. I see pinkie pie as a gyaru/kawaii core girly with loads of candy elements and she would have the darkest skin and the biggest body with the most positivity obvi. For twilight i see her as whimsy goth/dark academy vibes i think she would loveee silk skirts (like princess kinda stuff to and crystals/starts like in the y2k aesthetic but make it whimsy). Also some heathers/the brown haired girl from mean girls i can't remember her name those aesthetic fits her like what you did! Also i feel like she would be asian most probably japanase or korean. Rainbow dash is for me just a diva with tons of glitter, shimmer, diamond, silk and ruffle like she wanna look expensive. She would have the highist heals, iphone and bold glam makeup. Not tied to an aesthetic but would enjoy vintage stuff more and for apple jack i see them as a nonbinary person with tan (and i see rainbow dash as genderfluid ngl) so giving him a non gender specific down to earth farmer fashion is the way too go very baggy and loose and comfy with cowboy and apple elements (boots and hats) who is confident but very chill and helpful is the way i see them and a good listener c: amazing art and designs can't wait to see more!

18:00 There is a song about Rarity making dresses for the main 6 to wear for gala but because it wasn't really their taste Rarity had to remake them but with the main 6's idea. In the song Twilight Sparkles wanted constellation on her dress so I'm gonna assume she studies astronomy.

For me personally, I like to stick to the original shade of the characters coats as much as possible when I translate it to their skin color. It helps me feel like I'm staying true to the characters and not diverting too much.

i love your style and design ideas!!! one thing tho is , i totally get not wanting to draw all these minute details, spending hours drawing every clip and keychain and charm of a decora design is. pain. hands hurtign = ten million pains and sadness on earth. but i think without some extra accessories the pinkie pie design doesnt really come off as inspired by decora/or really that excessive as maybe you were hoping? No ones expecting you to make a full decora set, but maybe just a few extra pieces might get across the idea more! i'm sorry if this comes across as rude, i really do love your designs and ideas :] i love pinkies tied up hair, your cute striped top and the mismatched leg warmers :3 they fit her so well!! and fluttershy's green sweater cardigan against the earth tones skirt look amazing!!

applejack was definitely my favourite growing up but as you did, i started appreciating flutter shy more when i was older- she’s also my go-to when i wanna dress flowey, i ask myself ‘would flutter shy wear this?’ (there’s a point to this i swear) since i was a kid i’ve known i wanted to work with animals, but i always knew i didn’t want to be a vet because i knew i’d get too sad and even though i was helping, i’d still be hurting the animals more. so i’m currently in college taking bio, chem and maths so i can go onto uni to take zoology! it made me really happy to hear you say she’d be a zoology major or something similar :) even if you don’t know me or my aspirations, it still felt good to hear that one of my favourite characters, who i take comfort in even at my age, is so similar to me. so thank you :)

Personally, I always thought Flutter gave off European vibes for whatever reason? Probably because I thought her house looked somewhat like Hobbit's house, especially with that big round door up front, which I associate with Europe. I do agree with the earthy color palette, it is so her. However, I do think that we could take that color palette and lighten it up slightly. I feel like she would have a softer color palette and it gets brighter and she'd have more color on her outfits as she gains more confidence. Thrifty Shy is such a cute idea too but I feel like she'd wear her more thrifty outfits in the comfort of her own home or when she goes out to buy food for her animal friends. I do also have a note about Twilight. Instead of the skirt cutie mark, I feel like she'd have her cutie mark on one of the badges/pins decorated around her bag (and her bag has purple star patterns hehe). I definitely see her as a collector girly and she totally would have an obsession with collecting stuff like those. Love the redesigns btw, love Twi's one especially

Incoming rant(?): I binged the entirety of FIM last summer and when revisiting it, I came to discover that I did *not* like how pretty much all of the female characters kind of seemed way too similar (or static) in regards to character design (i.e. the knee-high shoes and thigh-length skirts). I will cut them some slack since animation should be kept simple, but character design should, in some way, give the viewer some idea on their personality. I love how you were able to express their personalities, I'm still learning how to do that myself. I can't wait to see the next part!
