I am from Varanasi. I visited Ayodhya 2 years back and when I was roaming in narrow streets/galis of Ayodhya, I felt like Varanasi 10 years back. Govt put lots of lot of effort in the development of these two cities, which changed the feel of these cities. That feel of an old untouched city/place is fading. At the same time, can't deny that without development & re-architecture these cities can't accommodate/support tourism. I suggest visiting Ayodhya sooner before it changes (for good with some drawbacks). 2 years back I stayed at small hotel 'Ramprastha' (paid around 3000 per night) and used to take auto to reach the 'Nayaghat chauraha' and then walk to either 'Ram ki Paidi' or another auto to 'Shri Hanuman Garhi' and then walk to Ram temple.
