Redfourth Butterfly - Ian (Blessed Assurance)

At Redfourth Butterfly - Special Needs Music School & Music... I have been introduced to many gifted special needs students. I often take time to define and make conclusions on their abilities. With Ian, I came to the conclusion that apart from him being on the spectrum, he also has what is known as the Musical Savant Syndrome.
People with savant syndrome (often called “savants”) have astonishing abilities in certain areas beyond the mental capability of most humans, often as the result of brain injuries or neuro developmental conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
While I am not qualified to diagnose authoritatively, I can conclude that Ian's musical abilities are almost superhuman.
Ian figured out how to play the piano and read music on his own. He has what we musicians call absolute pitch. Listen to his dictation skills at the end of this beautiful performance of 'Blessed Assurance'.
