For me there is only one word to describe Neil Peart's percussion, that's unparalleled, because he was never just a drummer, but a master percussionist.

"Y Y Zed"! Very good! 👏😊 And Alex' "note-bending" is done with the whammy bar on his guitar, not with an effects pedal 🙂 And Mr StickHits deserves a shout-out, I reckon; He's been doing a fantastic job with restorating and remastering numerous Rush live video clips! 🤩

To this day, Neil still blows my mind. Yeah, he was a hard hitter, very strong and powerful drummer. Ask any drummer! 😆 Ha Ha! I would yell as loud as possible at these dudes! It was a Thing! 😆👍 First, third, second row or way in the back (not for long)😉 I would put out the energy right back at them! I called it scaring the band. This was released right around the time I got really, really into Rush. As a kid I had always enjoyed seeing them on MTV but didn't even know if they were still active. When one of the other drummers in my Jr. High jazz band loaned me a cassette tape of "Exit Stage Left' I was hooked. I quickly acquired all of their music right up to Hold Your Fire. All I wanted to do was play that well and to such inspiring music, and this helped me grow tremendously. I later went with that same friend and both of our dads to my first arena rock concert, Rush of course, on their Presto album tour. Good times!

Hey neighbor, one thing about seeing Rush and Neil in particular, it was so awesome to look around the arena during the show and seeing thousands of people air drumming. I was one of them. Love your channel, look forward to daily posts and support as much as i can. Beth Hart has a new album coming out. I know, not the same type of music but the thread that makes Rush and Beth Hart my favorites is the fact that both are true masters of their craft and true musicians. Beth does blues, Rush did prog/rock! I like both and mostly i love artists that leave it all on stage.

Neil hits hard. Really hard. As much as I’ve loved his playing and absorbed years of inspiration from him, we are truly polar opposites. (except the totally meaningless fact that we share the same birthday). Examples: he has many drums, I have four. He has many cymbals, I have six. He is beloved by millions of adoring fans…. I… um…… hey everybody 👋🏻 Anyway, Neil breaks drumheads and cymbals like nobody’s business. Myself, I’ve broken maybe one bass drum head in my 35 years of playing, and zero snare or tom heads. In fact, my sticks usually last me upwards of six months before I replace them. I think I cracked a splash cymbal back in 1988 or something.. My style is all about dynamics, light touch, and economy of motion. Neil, while also a dynamic player, punished his equipment on a nightly basis. The man was a beast. and a force of nature. RIP, Cornelius Elwood Peart.

I know on tour preventively Neil’s drum tech would switch out the heads after every couple of shows. I believe the drum tech stated that Neil didn’t go through as many drum heads as other drummers that he worked for so it must be something to do with how Neil hit the drum head and then quickly and the back off which helped preserve the drum heads longer.
@mightyV4445 күн бұрын
Neil himself had said that he'd hit the drums and cymbals as hard as he'd been able to, though 😉 He'd also played with the butt end of his sticks for a very long time 🙂 I think on big kits like his, you simply don't hit the same drum head as often as on smaller ones, and so they last longer, too 🙂
@brettmarlar41544 күн бұрын
Alex was using his whammy bar to do those downward bends on those notes of the first melodic phrase. At the time of this performance, there weren't any pedal effects that could do that. Not for a few years. In case anyone isn't familiar with what a whammy bar is, that's the little black bar pertruding from the bridge of the guitar. Pushing the bar toward the body makes notes go flat(lower in pitch), pulling it away from the bod makes them go sharp (raise in pitch). Neil likely would've had the heads of his drums for each show. From what I've heard that he was so precise in striking the heads that the divots were in a grouping about the size of a quarter. Now that could be urban legend, But given Neil's meticulous nature, I wouldn't put it past him.

Neil Peart would be the first to say that there were other drummers with greater skills. Though he was an unrivaled innovator as a rock drummer, there were others who were more technically gifted. However, being a great musician is not the sole measure of his talent; he was a philosopher, poet, writer and thinker; that is, I believe, where he shines above all others, and why he is so much missed by his fans, myself included.

Al is using the tremolo bar on the guitar, yup! Bending notes, might be a Floyd Rose setup, clamps the strings and can bend notes up or down like CRAZY! This is Neil back before they called him Bubba, Haha! I shouldn't talk of extra pound from getting older. No one knows of drum heads except his drum tech, and he ain't talkin', I'm sure! I know that Neil feels your love, darlin! I've had two NDEs, so I know stuff. And he really loves having you as a new, crazy, but unique Rush fan. He still enriches lots of people's lives, even after being long gone. Look up on YT Rush Afterimage! Really Red. Get a hanky ready, you can make it through the reaction and cry afterward, it's ok, girl. I think it's about a friend of the 'Willowdale Boys' lost very early in life. Hard life education & crushing, I'm sure. Look for the original music video. It used to make me gently weep when watching it alone. NO ONE sees me cry! That's fine, Haha! Whatever don't kill ya just makes you stronger, Right! I live the best I can every day for all too many I've seen go, too much family also. They're all gone. There's no one left. I live for them. Zed, HA! Queen's English ya'll know? Hose heads! Snooty bastards, haha! Don't forget to swing your pinky around during teatime at 4;:00pm, Hosers! Hahaha! No worries, I'm sure they all would get a kick out of these things I wrote, yup! They obviously love joshing around, for sure. Let's all have a laugh in Neil's honor, he might agree. Go find the two real story of Rush (Rash) videos from TM tour, like a part I & part II video. Feaking hilarious! Many inside jokes & themes. Ray Daniels, etc. But some people love crap! It doesn't suck so bad this time, Pappa, Haha! Sounds like the damn howling in Hades! A musical scientist, Eh? Pathetic Monkey Boys! Haha! Great reaction video! You aren't afraid to let those feelings out. Way to be woman!

Re: Neil...Compare this with his playing post '97....he is so hunched over here, his posture is strained, still great but seems to want to get as many beats out there as is possible...after spending time with the late great Freddie Gruber his style changed somewhat (bit like Tiger Woods, golfer, no.1 in the world at the time but felt like he needed to change his method..), his posture changed, far more relaxed, and used the trad grip on his left hand much more...first 'appearance' of this was the 'Test For Echo' album, and Neil showed this off in the corresponding tours and videos to promote the album ('Driven' from this album shows this v well)...then, the tragedies occured and when Neil was ready to return, once he'd got his chops back, he kinda reverted back, using less trad grip, but still smart enough to remember what Freddie had told him....."It's a dance , kid!".....both wonderful men....RIP Sirs
