Possibly one the greatest complications in the history of rock. When Nirvana’s amazing “Sappy” is the hidden track, you know it’s an incredible album!

The hidden track starts at about 4:13 into effigy- one of the best last minutes of a song ever-

I ran away from home in high school and played this CD the whole time in my friend’s RX7. We came home after 6 hours of driving. Perfect sound track for 90’s teen angst

Their voices blended so well together. This recording is insane. It’s a notch above Neil Young and Crazy Horse imo - what it reminds me of more than CCR

Man, this compilation takes me back. Sort of the soundtrack to some wild times. Great jam here. The CCR original is awesome too. Just a good song.

I prefer this version over the original. I'm a huge Gov't Mule fan and I also prefer this version over theirs.

@@MisterBeauJanGels Yeah right on! I'm fully onboard your way of thinking. I'm glad you replied to my old comment, because it made for a swell excuse to listen to this again. My studio is testing out some new Beyerdynamic headphones and this sounds ridiculous. So good. May your children's children prosper, and may you gain the physical strength of a man nearly twice your size. Good on ya, lad. Cheers.

What a cover! The guitar in the breaks has every bit of the same frenetic raw energy that Neil and Crazy Horse had in their prime. RAWK!!!!!

Bought this way back in the day for the secret Nirvana song. Fell in love with Uncle Tupelo. Knew and loved Effigy from my dad's record collection.

Man this is a killer song. They didn't change much from the original but what they did change transformed it. I'm kinda glad this song never escaped the confines of obscurity, even if it deserves a place with all the other music of the time. I can't listen to stuff like Jeremy or Black Hole Sun anymore because they've become cliche and overplayed, and if this had been a single that was promoted I feel like it would have taken off. Also a band I wish had stated together. I prefer Sun Volt to Wilco. They're both great but when you put both together they made some great stuff. Shoulda been a roots rock/southern rock revival based around Tupelo.

One of my friends when this album came out had it. As soon as I saw what it was. I immediately went to the last track and listened to Sappy by Nirvana…her jaw dropped she had no idea….good times. Nirvana redid what they did on Nevermind but on a grandeur scale. On the entire Alt Scene with this compilation….as far as this song. I loved it when I 1st heard CCR do it. Yes Uncle Tupelo are amazing. But it’s a straight cover. Even John Fogertys vocals are amazing. If anything this song brought attention to the fact that 90’s Rock was the 70’s part 2. All of the 90’s artist were influenced by 70’s Rock. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. It’s a beautiful thing. It was 70’s rock influences with the progressiveness of the 90’s. If I could pick this song or the original the original 10-1, always. But thank you Uncle Tupelo for the CCR tribute. Side note before Nirvana started doing their original songs. They were a CCR cover band. It was Kurt’s uncles band, and all they did was play CCR covers. There’s actually a “Bad Moon Rising” CCR nirvana cover somewhere on KZbin.
