I was 16 when Gear of War came out. I remember playing at midnight in November. Like you, I haven't been this excited for a game since GoW3. Haven't played Gears 5 in about a year and a half, this is 1000% pulling me out of retirement haha

I need to mention the ashen mother and children at @8:28. This hits me so much harder now as a parent. It's horrible and sad to see this family turned to dust, probably as they're running terrified, the baby cradled tight. This is the last thing Dom sees and ponders for a brief moment right before the drone bursts through it, and he's ready to die. I wonder if he accepts it right then because he's so tired of fighting or if it's because of the horror of this ashen family in front of him. Probably both. That could have been Maria and his unborn children, had he had time to have a family. Shit you don't think about when you're a teenager in 2008

Along the same theme of parenting, the Gears 4 trailer is honestly probably my favorite Gears trailer out of all of these. Seeing little JD run to Marcus, then seeing adult JD fighting in the night, taking cover on the same tree he planted with his dad honestly makes me tear up. He's grown up to be chased through the dark woods by literal monsters and his dad is protecting him even when he's not there. Incredible.

It would have been better if the story was maybe just them being on the run while trying to find answers as to what happened without the deebee stuff and Jinn being a bitch

​@@eldav4489 I always felt like the main problem was that, there's lots of moments in the sequels that DO feel like Gears of War. But the general tone was lacking, it felt like they were trying to make the games less dark. E-Day's trailer catches the mood perfectly though, so I'm happy.

It's such a good way of story telling how Dom feels from the events of Gears 2 when he lost Maria, affects the Trailer we got for Gears 3. You can see Dom ready to give up but no matter what Marcus won't give up on him. Dom died in Gears 2 truly speaking, I think that's what made his death in Gears 3 much more impactful when he finally gave his last bit of life to save everyone else. One thing I'd like to point out is you can see the change of direction from the Trailers when they started to feel more like COD Warzone Trailers and not a dark, gritty, end of the world, last stand type of feel that the past Trailers had.

The first Gears of War 2 trailer got me to buy an XBOX 360. Then wound up buying two more so I could play in multiple rooms. Gears 2 multiplayer was hard as hell, but addictive when you got better. Been playing ever since.

I love the ashes to ashes one because it encapsulates the struggle for survival the locust despite being ruthless beast are merely desperately trying to survive between the lambent and the humans bringing their wrath upon the world the humans fighting amongst rubble and ashes trying to fight in a lost world and then the lambent the parasite who contaminated and almost consumed the world

The swarm has a lot of potential to actually be terrifying. It's just the art direction, and story that flopped them. GoW4 was definitely a good game imo. I don't understand why it had so much hate. GoW5 on the other hand. I hated everything in that game.

Really great video idea. The gears 2 and 3 ones hit hard for me. Also, as you watch the gears 5 ones, they seem like they’re for a summer blockbuster movie directed by Michael Bay. Explosions and big text telling you what to care about. Then boom…we see the Gears of War E-Day trailer. It says nothing in text, it shows you. Callback to the music, call back to the grit, call back to the hopeless feeling of the world falling apart. Again, great video idea. Going through them you can see where the plot/point was lost. Now, WE ARE BACK BABY!

Quite literally got chills watching the old trailers, the dramatic and cinematic visuals of the old games were so insanely off the walls. We will never get a game like Gears 3 again, that game made sure to give us more dread in the end than what any other Gears game ever did, Maria's death was sad, but watching Dom give up completely and die on purpose in that truck all because he has nothing left to live for is one of the most tragic moments in Gaming, I'd even say Halo: Reach Kat's Death has been surpassed, Gears 3 made you realize how truly horrific the Locust Horde is, and having to watch Marcus suffer Loss after Loss is more tragic.

I liked the story for judgement I just feel they should’ve went a little more traditional and linear instead of the segmented nature of the missions they went with and everything basically being one big flashback, multiplayer was not a fan of tho human vs human just wasn’t fun, the removal of the d pad for weapon switch was ass too lol I see what they were going for trying to stream line everything but hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it

Judgements multiplayer was the worst of the series but the campaign was actually pretty good not as good as 1-3 but definitely better than 4 and 5. The swarm and the new cog characters are so lame the game is so colorful and just doesn’t feel like gears of war at all. I’m so glad we got the locust back with Marcus and Dom. Also badass that a comp player fucks with the campaigns/story of Gears of War and not just multiplayer
