It is an outrage to mention "A Fish called Wanda" as an example of an outdated typical British Comedy. It was quite rightly nominated for several Academy Awards and is still probably a movie with one of the best screenplays! So tight, each scene is hilarious while at the same time pushes the plot along and is in line with the character's personalities. Which "modern" comedy can keep up with that?

Lol even i've never seen those, but know the name, and i grew up in the 80's on Laurel and Hardy, Will Hay, British sit coms, and 60's, 70's and 80's horror films, along with The Bill , Eastenders and Corrie lol.

Well, I guess they can't all be winners. Never got around to seeing this one myself, honestly British comedies besides Python is a giant blind spot for me, need to remedy that as I've enjoyed some of the ones I have seen and I'm not the biggest fan of comedy, but we all do need to smile and laugh every once and awhile!

Believe me us Brits have different opinions, the last 30 minutes of this could be improved a bit, but i still think it's a fantastic film. Other British comedies i recommend are A Fish Called Wanda and Clockwise, both starring John Cleese.

Yeah, it was entered as the official British selection to that years Cannes Film Festival?! Michael Winner must have had the final word.

Obviously i know we all have different opinions on films, and i recognise your criticisms. I remember this film wasn't popular when it first came out. Personally i've loved it since it first premiered on British tv. I think it's hilarious in places, i hadn't seen it about 10 years but watched it yesterday and loved it even more than i remembered, i moved it up into my top 20 favourite films of all time. For the record A Fish Called Wanda is my favourite comedy, and third favourite film, and i love Nuns On The Run too. Personally i'm not a fan of Fierce Creatures or The Pope Must Die, and i'd not heard of King Ralph before. Just the opinion of a 41 year old British guy though lol.

I agree, I’m 37 and I’ve loved this film since it came out, I had the vhs back in 1994 that came in a large ex rental box that I got from a boot fair as a kid. It came out on Blu-ray recently so obviously I had to buy it on release day because I still love this film. I’m from England and I grew up watching all those British comedy’s like king Ralph, fish called Wanda and nuns on the run. I own all of them and still watch them now and then. I think people have a special fondness for the things they loved as a kid and these films remind me of those times back in the early nineties.

Pope must die has the same premise but more satirical.

“You mean I’m not really Indian!” Is this really on Amazon Prime? Have to revist. Not a great film, IMO this is a A Fish Called Wanda…as directed by Michael Winner. However, any film that has an Oxbridge educated solicitor named Raoul Shadgrind is worth a look. Also Catherine Zeta Jones was hot, but Barbara Hershey was...wow.

It's a DVD pick this week so it's not on Amazon Prime I'm afraid. It's not the greatest but there's a few amusing gags and the cast are clearly on board with the ridiculousness of it all, which helps. ~ S

As for Rick Miranis i think the only other films i saw him in were Honey i Shrunk the kids, Spaceballs and Ghostbusters, and personally i don't like any of those. Lol just my opinion.
