Do I need to unlock the bootloader? The path to where the ROM fails to play it on the Miflash, something that can be done?

Someone higher up at XDA that I work with has talked about switching from Chinese to Global without unlocking the bootloader, but hasn't pointed me to a thread or any instructions on how that is done. Any research I have done on going from Chinese to Global ALL say that you need to unlock the bootloader first. I'm not sure what you mean by 'the path to where the ROM fails to play'

a fastboot rom can only be flashed in fastboot mode (and is a much drastic change of rom), while the regular rom can be updated using the updater software inside of MIUI

When changing to Global stable ROM, will additional bands become available? e.g US LTE bands. My "International" phone has EU 4G LTE bands installed, zero US LTE bands.

So firstly, no, changing to a Global ROM will not add support for additional LTE/GSM bands. The way I check to find out what version of the software the device has, is by looking at the build number. www.androidexplained.com/check-china-global-stable-beta/ Once you are able to get the build number (a series of letters and numbers), then a quick Google search and some checking of threads/titles should give you an idea on what software you're currently running
