Hey, I'm in the process of doing exactly what you are and I've got a few tips for you. First off, the whole motor is made by Ducar. I have the exact same motor branded as a ProPoint. Look at the base of the engine it will have either a stamp or a sticker bearing the Ducar name. Now onto the carb. I managed to make my pilot fuel screws adjustable just last night. Process goes like this; scrape off as much of that green sealant covering the pilot screws as you can. Center punch the dead center of your pilot screws. Drill them out with a 1/16" bit as deep as you dare, I would suggest no more than 1/4". Tap a T7 torx bit in the hole and now you can remove and adjust the screws. I will be ordering all new jets for mine as it's quite obviously running lean. Hanging idle and bright white plugs. I'll drill out the pilot jets first to get an idea of the right size jet. The Honda GX690 comes with 45 pilots and 118 mains I believe so it will probably take jets even bigger than that. As for the 43 on the pilot jet it should in fact mean that it's a number 43 jet (.43mm orifice) but when they are mass sourcing these parts from China they will just stamp whatever they want on there. Let me know if you need any more info for modding the pilot fuel screws or anything else, love the no nonsense videos.

Update, I just pulled my pilot jets and my smallest drill bit (#80, equivalent to a #34 jet) won't pass through so the 43 written on the jet means nothing in the real world. Since these are pretty much GX clone engines, the pilot jets should be somewhere between #40 and #45. I will drill them out with a #78 drill and go up from there if required.

@@timmothydubois9693how did this work for you? I'm starting to play with Jet sizes and curious where yours landed as perfect?

@@timmothydubois9693 what size did you end up with on your jets? I have the same ProPoint I am repowering a JD318 with, would be great to have a starting point.

Looks like a briggs Vanguard clone carb

Just bought a 713 for a old bucket truck to run the hydraulic system. Motor ran terrible. Like yours it wouldn't start without the choke even after it was warm. Hunted up and down. Did your carb trick and it runs great. Thanks for taking the time to make that video. I lived in Kittery Me for a couple of years while building a air separation plant there. Nothing like upstate weather though. By the way. If you take a small drill bit and drill a small intention in the idle screws you will be able to adjust the mixture. That brass top you see is the mixture screw they have glued in. Just don't drill through it.

10:00 That is a nice set of twist drills, probably solid carbide. If you see them on Ebay grab them.

not sure i'd go for a merged exhaust/muffler. Maybe 2 resonators the merge into a single exit pipe. Or 2 separate mufflers on each chassis side rail, I have a hunch the merge point unequal header pipes and the small exit radius + whatever baffle arrangement is setup is acting like a secondary burn conflict point.

sometimes it takes many on and offs to jet carbs right .. the idle jet also matters in some carbs. go so fat it barely runs and then go backwards. check back pressure , try without a air filter. and my biggest secret. tune without gas cap on. i spent a lot of time tuning only to figure out the vent to was small , i did not notice what kind of fuel pump. but set up a gravity feed while tuning to rule everything out of fuel delivery ..

In my instance we had a vertical shaft briggs that made the exhaust glow red and it turned out the flywheel key was sheared and the timing was just off a little. Lol
@redneckcomputergeek Жыл бұрын
Yup this was why I mentioned timing at the end of the video. It is far more rare to see happen on these engines. But distributor walk was a very common problem that caused this in automotive stuff for years.

Maybe a glassback muffler?
@denny2277 Жыл бұрын
Do you recommend the 713 over the 670 Predator?
@redneckcomputergeek Жыл бұрын
They both have the same known problems. The one noted reason to go with 713 is its closer to the GX690 in parts.
