In the sixties a group of school leavers 16/17 started a band. Their first gig a local church, gear bus a wheel barrow, they called themselves „The Barrow Boys“ Pete York Rhythm Guitar, Dave Liddle Lead Guitar, Pete Sully Bass and Vocals, Mike Franklin Drums. Eventually called Thyme Flys them with Polydor changed name to Pete Sully and the Orchard (by then Pete York had left seas now a 3 man band). Often in the Studio, the 60‘s rocked for live bands. They toured UK, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. Took part in talent contests but were too blues orientated. Dave was shit hot in Guitar, Pete as hot on Bass. Then 3 and 4 minute songs rapidly became 20 minute improvisations. We lived in each other’s pockets, knew what each other was thinking as we were never apart. Sometimes I look at the photos of the band. Pete Sully wrote his own material such as Evil Woman, which is now a cult song. RIP Dave. Shame I can’t upload old photos. Both you and Pete were a major part of my youth, we were a shit hot Band. Mike

Saw many many Weller concerts, saw Dave Liddle many many times tuning guitars 'n sound 'n stuff, unfortunately never saw him join in and show just how good he was. ✊

A great band lineup around this time. Don't forget Yolanda Charles on bass and Helen Turner on keyboards. All held together by the fantastic Steve White.

*Shit!!!! This is awesome - I had forgotten how the guitar tech / roadie came out on stage and rocked with them until this reminded me.* This is fucking great. Damn I had forgotten how fantastic Paul Weller was live. Shit this is 20 years in the past now too. I saw him on this tour in Boston MA.

An utterly sensational performance. I can understand that those of us that got to see this line up through the 90s, have it ingrained into ourpsyche, as quite simply the best line up. Steve White, Helen Turner, Yolanda Charles, Marco Nelson, Damon Minchella, Seamus Beaghan, Edgar Jones. The list goes on. It’s great to have Jacko Peake back on woodwind though. This performance epitomised the 90s Weller sound. PWs choice of players, (bar Steve Craddock), have never been the same since; with the same energy, skill and sound.

Dave Liddle was an old family friend of ours. I used to spend long afternoons in his Guitar Shop in London with my Dad and Brother. Always a great guy and let me have all the free Hot Chocolate I wanted from his little machine. I really miss his stories and generosity.

No khazi in that shop, though, so multiple hot drinks were playing Russian roulette to an extent.

How many rock stars at their peak would have the generosity and balls to put two fingers up to convention and let their roadie / tech get up and do a song with the band? Weller is a legend in more ways than one.

@@Spartanm333 I can confirm he was at Dave's funeral too to pay his respects. Although he did not stay for the wake which most people understood.

@@Nebucanezzer - yes he is a gent and I understand that about Dave's passing. My dad was a Northern league footballer and referee - we contacted several of his friends at Leeds United including Eddie Grey and Peter Lorimer - they paid their respects to the family privately but stayed away on the day. The players would have become the centre of things which they understood and did not want.

@robmillisTW24 жыл бұрын
Trust me, Weller DID go to his funeral, as did I. I can picture it now, Bonner Hill Rd, mid afternoon. Weller turned up, honestly. I remember being struck at how much taller he was than I'd imagined.
@shadowtheboxer85334 жыл бұрын
Rob Millis Only asked as a lot of people asked the same question around that time as to why he didn’t appear. Having met Paul numerous times over the years he isn’t that tall unless your a dwarf.

@@shadowtheboxer8533 I wonder why people started thinking he hadn't gone, though. He definitely did. Never had Dave down as a computer games man, that's an eye opener.
