The more gravel you can backfill with, the more water you will have. Get the culvert pieces in as quickly as possible. And please be careful and mindful of the instability around the dug hole with all the moisture in it. If you fall in or slip in, It would be almost impossible to climb out. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

That's why I've never figured out why people dig wells instead of a small pond if on 2 or more acres. It's safer, costs less, no tank needed, and lots more summer fun for the family especially if you add fish. Either way you'll have to filter the water so why not choose to spend less, work less, and most fun quicker -vs- a boring, costly, time consuming, and all around dangerous well?

Love water videos! Upright culvert with leeching holes around the bottom with the rest of hole filled with gravel. Make sure you top it off with fabric and sloped dirt to guide surface water away!!!

I grew up on a farm and we had a spring in the bush a little above the house its been working for almost a 100 years all gravity fed never been filtered. we can water all day the garden if we want. Looks like this will work for you big relief.

Outside of our cement culverts we had 3 feet of clean stone placed around them. This allows for water retention in the stone acting as another holding "tank".

I am going through this now. We have a 150 ft well on the property with sulfur water and a natural gas leak into the well so our water smells like natural gas and sulfur combined. But I do have springs that run on the mountains behind us we are going to have to collect from. Congratulations on the great find.

I always use those six foot holding tanks it come in 6 foot diameter by 2ft tall and you can stack them up. 2 foot tall by 6 foot is 600 gallons capability. Put a submergible pump in the bottom of your spring, run a water line going to line up to your house and you'll have water. You will have to put a pressure tank in the line somewhere and put a pressure switch on it has a low limit in case you run out of water you don't burn up your pump if your well runs out of water. I wouldn't waste my time getting the water tested. I mean what could possibly be in it that would make it unsafe? I'm sure it's safer than city water.

Might consider a ram pump. Except for the frozen winter months, where you could use electricity to keep the water flowing to the storage tanks, the ram pump operates on its own, with no external power source 27/7, and can even pump up hill at a rate constant enough to probably keep your tanks topped off.

Hooked up to an overflow line from the water hole it can and will work. I know for a fact because my father installed one off of a pond overflow back into the 50's on our hog farm. It fed a holding tank about 300 feet up a slope behind one of the 3 farrowing houses we had.

That could work. IF there is an overflow line. IF there is enough flow in that overflow line. And IF there is enough drop from the top of the overflow line, to where the ram pump is. This is not likely to have an overflow line. It's a hole in the ground. It will have a water level equal to the water table where the hole is dug. That water table will be below ground level. From the looks of it, several feet below. The flow in an overflow line in this well would be "iffy". And would certainly not be reliable. And the hole is below the level of his house. There is not much drop from there, even if the line is run all the way to the road. Certainly not enough drop to get the ram pump to pump the water back up past his house. IF this hole is high on his property, it might be feasible to deep trench from this hole, sideways, so that he can put in an 'artificial' overflow line. But in fact, IF the hole was high enough on his property to do that, he might as well just run that overflow pipe to his storage tank at his HOUSE! Again, it's a hole in the ground. It's below the level of his house. If you had actually had any hands on experience with ram pumps, and KNEW how they worked, no one should have had to explain this to you. Your suggestion is rather like suggesting that someone put pedals on their work truck, to help the engine out, when carrying a large load. In the known context, it just doesn't make sense. All that said, even if he could get it to work, a ram pump is only roughly 20% efficient.So 80% of whatever water he could get to run downhill in an overflow pipe would be wasted. He wants a hole in the ground that holds water. He wants to pump that water from below his house, to above his house, by dropping a pump into that hole. All this is obvious in his video. I can't believe that I typed all that out. Just because someone suggested not to forget to put screens on the submarine doors...

This will be my last reply on the topic. First of all, installing an overflow line is simple, as it just needs to be below the level the water pooled in the hole. If, as he stated, the water is filling the hole at the rate of approximately 14 gallons per minute, there will be ample run off from that line to power a ram pump. My father pushed an overflow pipe thru the high berm of a pond that had natural fill from an underground spring. A ram pump can be powered simply by installing the in feed in a stream. If you don't believe me, go to the Wranglerstar site and look at the vids of his ram pump. Also, it will pump up hill at a steady rate, enough to fill an elevated water tower. Again, view the Wranglerstar site. We had a 500 gallon tank mounted approximately 20 feet off the ground and it always had water in it. The pressure was enough to fill the water troughs for the sows to drink from as well as using it to wash the concrete floor. Regarding the effectiveness of the ram pump, it certainly does not compare with more modern pumps of the day. I was merely stating a possible low tech solution to his problem. If you feel the need to show how much smarter you think are then a 70 yr old man who does have first hand knowledge on how a ram pump can work, than knock yourself out scooter. This is my final word on the subject and there will be no further replies to any future responses to this posting.

I would bury a plastic storage tank drill holes all around and wrap with landscape cloth and put stone all around and use a shallow well pump and pressurized well tank and down to house with 1/12 plastic pipe American plumber has some real good paper filters and carbon for drinking and ice you could put a small reverse osmosis unit under kitchen sink. You could also put a couple tanks down by house for storage and for irrigation and fire protection.grunfos and Meyer makes good booster pumps to increase pressure in house. Good luck

That is great that you found underground water which you can use for your home and people here have been using this technique for decades to find water for a shallow well. There is a plant called a Wishing Willow which grows here and we have many of those plants on our property and I tried to keep them for the purpose of digging a well and have found underground streams using the "Y" shaped branch from the plant and know it works. I don't know where you live, but if you live in the Mid-West there may be some in your area.

Looks like you could excavate your storage tank right there, dewater with a sump pump or trash pump, then concrete the walls of it. Then, put your pump in the storage tank and place the filtration downstream, then on to the house. Cover everything back up with dirt from the tank excavation for winterization. I don't think you're gunna like the taste of water that shallow, though.

One last idea. That water is trapped by a clay layer underneath. If you can dig past the clay layer to the next sand layer, that water can then run down to fill the sand layer, making a useful aquifer (and safe underground storage). You can then move over 100ft and access that sand layer with a traditional hand dug well and set a sand point with pump. 100ft of sand filtering should make the water a little safer. P.S. that next sand layer is probably going to have much higher quality water, maybe even potable raw. If so, undo this hole so the layers can't mix. Pack it tight, especially at the flowing water seam. Best of luck!

Great functionality but you could draw much cleaner and deeper shallow well water if you researched on using psi to bore well casing... pipe pump and wire then goes down casing into water pocket

12 inch corrugated plastic black culvert get a skill saw make notches on the side and back fill around it with pea gravel or 5/8ths rock you could even use road fabric and wrap around it. Be careful because i you do not do this the line will ill with mud and silt. Trial and error. For years for my cabin i used a 1 inch line to a galvanized corrugated pipe 12 ft tall 24 inch pipe. On the hill cemented into the rock. Then had a float to stop flow. Then used a poly pipe 3/4 inch on the other side. I used 1 inch s/s pipe cut in 3 inch long and heat up the poly and use 4 s.s. clamps from home depot. Never failed me yet and the pipe has only frozen 1 time in 30 yrs over on the side of the cabin is a rock face so i cannot bury it. What is nice now is pex pipe. And since then i put in an inline 2 filter sediment that works great. Walmart sells those cheap ones i change out 1 time a month. Here my mum lives in a nearby city and her water bill was 300 last month she complained they dropped it to 140. It will go back up when they build the 200 homes behind her. She comes to my place for drinking water because her water has natural asbestos in it. Since she moved in her cat died of cancer. And her other cats have had medical issues.
