for those wondering why there are two Russias, heres a little backstory: In 1945 at the end of the fifteenth European war, what is now known as Soviet Russia, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Estonia, and Ukraine all formed a great nation called the United States of America, named after Macron America their founding leader. This nation existed until 2001, when tensions flared so much that the USA eventually collapsed into various states. Russia, Czechoslovakia, and Soviet Russia were all united into yet another country called the Polish Commonwealth, however only a year later Czechoslovakia seceded. This left Russia with an exclave called Crimea because Czechoslovakia didn't want it. Soon another civil war started between the communists and the democrats and the democrats fled to Crimea while the communists took over the mainland. Since then, Democratic Russia has remained in opposition to the Soviet government but has limited recognition worldwide due to the One Russia Policy. Because it has limited recognition, Ukraine believes nobody owns Crimea since the nation there doesn't exist and the Soviets aren't administering it, so therefore they believe it is rightfully Ukrainian. Multiple attempts at conquering the island have failed because of the locals there (The Native Russian Tartars), but it doesn't stop Ukraine from trying anyway. This has been met with sanctions by the Soviet Russians, however since Ukraine is a larger power, they are mostly harmless to the Ukrainian economy. TL;DR - Russia, Czechoslovakia and Soviet Russia was 1 nation, had a civil war and split. Russia then had a civil war between communists and democrats and democrats fled to Crimea in opposition of the Soviets
