We lost about 20 Ash trees this last year... terrible. I am pretty sure, we are going to lose so many more as well. Love the pigs. Hoping to get some ANGs next year.
@RedToolHouse7 жыл бұрын
All of our ash trees are gone on the 100 acres. I have found a couple saplings that aren't hit yet, but those will get it soon enough. It is depressing.

Is anything being done to selectively breed a resistant strain? I've been reading about the effort to recreate the old American Chestnut with resistance to the disease that deestroyed them. Easier to achieve before the original population is completely gone!

cubs were playing like the cubs of loins, hyenas and others wild ones that i've watched some clips in animal channels... its amazing that all these cubs have something in common... wow

I was thinking you were by the New River Bridge, ever been to the cass Railroad? I love West by god Virginia.

We are further west of the gorge. We have a camp up near Cass. We love that area.

you mentioned you fill a 50 gallon drum. How do you keep the algae from building up in it?
@julier10807 жыл бұрын
You mentioned maybe not being able to get all the ash milled before it rots. 2 decades ago I lived in VT and it was an issue there too, but I seem to remember them cutting trees and just stockpiling logs and not worrying too much about rot. Since ash is so 'dry' even when it's green, what is it that makes yours rot?
@RedToolHouse7 жыл бұрын
julie r it seems when it is standing the bark delaminates so fast due to the emerald ash borer that it makes them dry out and split more than rot, I guess. The amount that I have versus how quickly I can get to it leads me to believe there will be much waste. I have some friends coming out to cut firewood for themselves now. Bigger logs go to our band mill

Yeah it would be a shame to let such good wood go to waste. I'd love to have access to ash and oak. Only birch and poplar and spruce here. I have a woodmizer lt15 and saw for my own hobby and construction needs, I miss the great hardwoods from my east coast days!

Can you out a gutter on your shed and direct the water into your chicken water barrel?
@RedToolHouse8 жыл бұрын
Michael Kinner yes we could. We actually have an IBC tote 80 feet up the mountain that is filled with run off. We use it to fill the drum. Water pressure is a bit high!
