This endeavor had all the markings of a real world infrastructure project: ✔️ Bulldozing everything and making something new from scratch because it's prettier and more prestigious, instead of maintaining what was there. ✔️ Deleting / closing important connecting roads, walking paths, and public transport for the duration of the project, torturing every citizen. ✔️ Bulldozing and rebuilding freshly built stretches of road because somebody changed their mind. ✔️ Endless discussions on where bike and pedestrian access can be ignored. ✔️ Rushed second junction because time is running out. ✔️ Knowingly lowering the land value of gorgeous existing neighborhoods. Good job though. ;)

My favorite is when they’re working on the railroad track and close off the road that leads to 3 neighborhoods, making that one entry at the 4-way require you to get in the other lane. It’s like they forget people live there or something . Not like they pass 3 entrances to neighborhoods when they leave or anything. Uugghhh

Quick one from a British highway designer, if you want your road markings more realistic, at 17:09 your chevrons should be facing the other direction on the on slips. They're designed to direct vehicles and discourage them from driving over them. Basically switch the direction that you're currently using them in and you're all good! I tend to use normal highways and just separate the pedestrians/bikes into a path that travels over the highway as a bridge. That way they never have to deal with vehicles, and vehicles don't have to deal with them. It also looks awesome having a bike/ped superhighway that is chock full of people. Then I will actually have the railway use wide pillars and travel over top the highway & ped/bike paths. Also looks awesome, and its just a great use of vertical space.

Use of chevrons at the merges was created to improve safety by using optical illusion to influence drivers to automatically slow down at a merge zone or offramp. To achieve this effect, the "pointy part" of the "v" needs to be aimed toward the oncoming driver. You've got it right at minute 18:20.

The bicycle lanes are actually very unsafe,, and no one in the Netherlands would design it like that. I do LOVE that you finally add lots of bicycle lanes, but you surely don't add them to highways that's just insane. You add bike lanes to inner city connection lanes, where the speed is never higher then 50 kmph. The idea of adding bike lanes near highways is possible, but they must be completely separate, and never ever cross highway paths. Remember: it's all about separation of different kinds of traffic. In the Netherlands we have several foreigners who think it's agood idea to bike on highways or motorways. We Dutch call them insane, and we would lock them up.

Just a quick FYI: you can set your own defaults in the laning tool. Just go to your template tab and click on the star icon. It saves it per line type, so dashed, chevron, solid etc. can all get their own settings. This way you don't have to select your own dash every time which saves a lot of time in the long run. Might be worth looking into the hotkeys for it as well as I've found myself using those a lot which saves a lot of time. Beside that, it's a great video as always :)

Some advice from an Oklahoman on what to do about that starting section: You can of course leave it that way, as a very underdeveloped area, or you can upgrade it. However, if you upgrade it, you'll need to 1) remove some housing & commercial from the area & 2) loose population which might not come back to other areas. So, my suggestion is to use a combination of dirt roads on the outer sections and some two lane roads along the side nearer the nicer neighborhoods and maybe add a section of industry nearer to the highway (you'll have to remove and/or make historical the ones you do/don't want). Or you can make it a combination downtown office & shopping area that is a bit more densely packed than the other areas. Also you could do this and add some old town city center historic feel (look up Oklahoma City's Bricktown or San Antonio's Riverwalk) to attract tourist. Just a few suggestions. ;)

You missed it on the highway to the main road connection at the first step in the rebuilding process too. Personally I also prefer the solid filler when theres a median to a median and no crossover traffic, but thats just a personal taste. Love your content always, thanks for putting it out there for our enjoyment

He should have done it M4/A4 Chiswick Flyover style with the elevated road in the middle and the older, ground-level road on the sides! This maintains the old connections! The bike lanes should be on the ground-level roads! Also, 80km/h speed limits are realistic for urban highways!

I play on console. Sometimes, I resent not getting some of the mods PC users can have. Sometimes, I think I'm glad because it forces you to come up with a more creative (and in my opinion, better) solution. The junction at 6:20, you can just lay down two mirrored roads heading in the same direction instead of alternate directions - that way you get a far smoother, more aesthetic layout without relying on mods to adjust and fiddle things about. Lay the first road with the curved tool, then do the same for the other road before changing direction. Edit: also your on and offramps for the highway-roundabout are janky as heck (see 11:28) because there's a node in the middle of them. Just rebuild the road without the node and it'll flow much better. The game goes for the shortest possible slope, so you end up with the road split in the middle - one low level bit and one sloped bit. Instead of using mods, build the road in the other direction and flip it - that should remove the middle node.

Relaying this communication from Teaport: Mr. Mayor, In reference to your recent construction initiative, I have the following feedback: 1. Have the two highway on-ramps merge into the right hand lane of the highway rather than both the highway and the center lane. There's likely to be more traffic coming from the highway than the on-ramp, so it makes sense not to block it. 2. The poor part of town (where I presently reside) should remain low density, as this is part of the charm of our neighborhood. However, my fellow citizens can not abide by the dirt roads, which turn to sludge whenever it rains. Please replace them with proper asphalt! 3. My fellow citizens are likewise annoyed that you have not yet purchased the parcel of land next to ours. We request that you purchase it immediately so you no longer need to avoid purchasing it. Sincerely, Snidley Purplebottoms III.

Biffa when you have a road splitting into two one way roads to get onto a roundabout (20:53), try downgrading the middle section on the roundabout, sort of like how you did with the intersection marking tool in the last episode, where you have a dedicated lane that only goes off.

Biffa: Liked the episode. One suggestion. Why not try a DLR style solution to the trams crossing the roundabout. Firstly lower the grassy area at the centre of the roundabout so it is low enough for the trams to pass under the roads. then place a tram stop in the middle. Finally link footpaths/cycle-lanes through underpasses to the two side roads. See Beckton Park or Cyprus stops on the Beckton line for inspiration.

Biffa, the pick it mod selects the elevation mode based the segment you select. If you select a ground segment, it automatically goes to ground mode. If you were to select an elevated segment, it would automatically select elevated mode. Same for bridges and tunnels. It basically mirrors the selected segment EXACTLY.

I think the detailing is amazing. It gives the city a bit extra "spice". The two new mods are like a new toy, use them with joy. I like to see the process and all the fiddeling😉 Oh and don't forget, that you can use the node controller on the tram t-junctions too (to smooth them out a bit). Suggestion Change the roads in the starter area to small city roads and make it high density. But don't change the road layout completely, it will show you the history of the founders/ old city... like in real life.

Can confirm, UK "Give Way" onto a roundabout *still isn't* double dashed thick white lines, it's only one. Double dashed white lines are give way on a major road and can be used on *mini* roundabouts (rarely, according to The Highway Code). A single dashed is give way right _specifically_ on a roundabout. A single dashed thicc line is for a mini roundabout usually too. Double dashed lines = Small road going into a major road junction give way (T, Cross). Single dashed line = Normal roundabout. Thicc dashed line = Tiny roundabout (typically and island-less roundabout).

You should turn that dirt road area into a quaint "old-town" style area. Something that represents what Tea Port used to be like back around the time of its "founding". Often in America, the freeways have signs indicating that there's a "Historic City Center" with an off ramp that leads to a section with smaller streets and quaint older buildings, with businesses that cater to road-tripping tourists looking for entertainment. I'm not sure about Tea Port's history, but a perhaps it has something to do with one of the city's founding fathers, the Earl of Grey?

I think the old/new area could be an expansion of your tourist/leisure area with an amusement park, museums, city park (Central Park or lungs of the city). You already have the tram lines there. I thought we’d see more use of the node controller mod in this, you could use them on the tram lines too so they are more of a sweeping turn than the 90 degree turn. I laughed a lot during this one Biffa 😁👍

I'm a little ahead on population and expanding (well I had a lot of time and i don't have to make videos. I use mods but I don't have dlcs) I did a similar roundabout and right across road in the center road but some of the cars prefer to go down the ramp on to the roundabout and up the road to the other side rather than going straight. traffic is good so it's not a problem but I couldn't solve why. thanks for the inspiration. Another bit of detailing you can do with the intersection marking tool is use it to continue the painted lanes through the intersection. Like in your roundabout with the green bike lanes, use the filler tool to 'box' in the lane, do a solid fill, then do your best to match the color. I do it all of the time with my tram and bus lanes, especially when I have tram lines approaching an intersection from opposite directions and both make left turns rather then go straight through, it adds a little touch of eye candy to see that represented on the ground.

Like so many suggested before me: bycicles on a highway? That seems iffy at best. I suggest running a nice bycicle/pedestrian highway underneath the highway with an underground connecting thingy under the roundabout. Also: that tramline underneath might do with some smooting out ;). Connecting roads between the areas also sounds like a sollid plan. You could also just run the train under the highway at groundlevel just behind the ramp. I like the dirtroad saction by the highway: looks like some dodgy suburbs/favella thingy. Maybe you could put the festival area on a connection to a highwaystop (with the petrol station, restaurant, etc.)
