This is the first video on KZbin that I've found that fully explains the mechanism behind this reaction, you see all these videos about solvated electrons but no one ever explains what's actually happening :)

Well actually others are teaching correct and he told the wrong mechanism as solvates electrons are a major part of this reaction.

At 6:20 how come the Na just donates an electron shouldnt it form a bond with the carbon?

7:07; I believe you are referring to an alkyne and not a alkene, thus the triple bond. But a truly helpful video, nonetheless. Thank you.

Well you didn't explain why nh3 is used as a solvent in this reaction. According to your mechanism the na is directly reacting with the alkyne hence you mean that this reaction can also be carried out without any solvent. Which is definitely wrong. Please do not teach wrong things on KZbin
